No surprises, but what stands out -- and we knew this already -- is that our "ball handling" guards are short, with Francis 6-1, JMike 6-2, and LMark 6-2.

The off-guards are taller, with Powers 6-4 and Zrno 6-7.

Apropos of nothing, Zrno is also sporting a full grill of braces in his roster pic.

Unfortunately, there is no team picture yet, so we can't debate endlessly about player heights...

Probably need them all here first before we can have a team picture.

Pikiell going with the zero hype approach this season anyway.

When did 6'2" became "too short" for a point guard?

Purdue's Braden Smith is 6' 0". UConn's guards with the most minutes last year where 6'2" and 6'3". Same was true for Florida (6'2" & 6'3").

They all seemed to do just fine. Just sayin'.

Couple of things.

I don’t have a problem, per se, with shorter guards at 6-1 or 6-2. But when three out of likely four guards (not sure how much playing time Powers gets as a freshman) in the guard rotation are all on the short side, it makes us vulnerable on the defensive end, and also can limit us on the offensive end due to difficulties finishing at the rim in traffic.

Pointing to national championship caliber teams with shorter guards doesn’t prove that average short guards will be equally as effective. JMike and Tariq Francis will not be confused with 1st round draft pick Walter Clayton.

I’m not saying it can’t work. It’s just one (of many) concerns on this year’s roster.

College sports is now the same as going to a Blue Claws game from season to season. Each year it seems like maybe two guys are on the team from the previous season. They get traded, move up to AA, get cut and play in an Indy league, or quit playing. A couple weeks ago, there was a thread about Jeremiah Williams. I had completely forgotten who he was.
