174 pound quarterfinal: Levi Haines vs. No. 8 Brody Baumann (Purdue)

Haines with a takedown at 1:00. Working for a turn at edge of mat, but can’t get it. First period ends with a ride out. 3-0 Haines with 2:01 riding time

Baumann defers and Haines takes down. Immediate reversal, 5-0. Turned him with an arm bar, but Baumann rolls through and out of bounds. No points. Haines working on a tilt and Baumann almost spins on top. Haines recovers. No points. Second ends 5-0 with 3:50 riding time.

Baumann takes down. Gets the escape. Quick takedown by Haines on double leg. Had the leg pinned and turns him for the pin! 5:58 time of the fall.

Haines takes bottom to start. He gets a fast reversal to go up 5-0. Haines rides out the period. He nearly got himself caught late working for nearfall points.

Third period
Neutral start. Haines shoots and scores quick for an 8-0 lead. He cuts, shoots, and scores again for an 11-1 lead. Now he works Baumann to his back and pins him Time of the fall 5:58. He's into the semis.

Leading 5-0 late in the first period, Starocci nearly pinned Washington but ran out of time. He di dget four back points though for a 9-0 lead after one.

Second period
Starocci takes bottom and is gets a reversal off a nifty move for an 11-0 lead before they go off the edge with 1:15 to wrestle. Washington eventually escapes to 11-1 with about 40 seconds left in the period. Takedown Starocci to 14-1, and the nearfall count is going. That ends it. 19-1 technical fall in 3:54.
