The arms have looked good so far. Wheeler was his usual Wheeler self in his spring debut. Luzardo was interesting in that you got to see both him and Crochet for comparison purposes. I didn’t realize how big Crochet is, he is all of the 6’6” 245 listed. He’s formidable but Luzardo had the gas coming out of his hand easily. Instant impression, give me Luzardo and let me keep Painter and the farm assets.

They ran through the pen against the Yankees with the top 4 all getting an inning. Romano might have been a little amped and overthrew a couple of pitches but he threw hard. Kerkering looked good as well but the guy who stood out was Alvarado. He was 100 right out of the gate and topped out at 100.7. He threw strikes and the cutter had dive that made it impossible to hit. The big man looks 20 lbs lighter. Now he threw gas out of the gate last year as well in Clearwater but he was impressive. Throw in Matt, and those will be the top 4 obviously. I still think they add an arm in the pen if they are in the hunt and feeling optimistic about their chances at the deadline.

What should the expectations be for this team? I still don't feel like we fixed the main problem of the hitters being streaky. Is it time we let Stott play full time no matter who the pitcher is? I felt there was no consistency of the lineup on a daily basis, some of the hitters never knew where they were batting. Sounds like a small thing, but if you ever played you know it messes with your head. I am all for keeping players fresh, but you still need to balance keeping your starters in rhythm. If the players we picked up in the off season if they are healthy, they can go back to what they used to be would be a huge pickup (especially with Romano).

I want to get excited but last year you saw the collapse coming a mile away and feel like we didn't do anything to fix it. Curious to see how others feel.

Have you seen Painter at all yet? Throwing on the side? I know they are not pushing him yet but was curious to see what his workouts have been so far?
