I don’t know how this guy is going to pitch with men on base and that pause in his delivery. So slow to the plate.
Have you seen Painter at all yet? Throwing on the side? I know they are not pushing him yet but was curious to see what his workouts have been so far?The arms have looked good so far. Wheeler was his usual Wheeler self in his spring debut. Luzardo was interesting in that you got to see both him and Crochet for comparison purposes. I didn’t realize how big Crochet is, he is all of the 6’6” 245 listed. He’s formidable but Luzardo had the gas coming out of his hand easily. Instant impression, give me Luzardo and let me keep Painter and the farm assets.
They ran through the pen against the Yankees with the top 4 all getting an inning. Romano might have been a little amped and overthrew a couple of pitches but he threw hard. Kerkering looked good as well but the guy who stood out was Alvarado. He was 100 right out of the gate and topped out at 100.7. He threw strikes and the cutter had dive that made it impossible to hit. The big man looks 20 lbs lighter. Now he threw gas out of the gate last year as well in Clearwater but he was impressive. Throw in Matt, and those will be the top 4 obviously. I still think they add an arm in the pen if they are in the hunt and feeling optimistic about their chances at the deadline.
