What Martinez did last season is in the past. He may go on another run in the 2nd half, who knows. What he is doing now is what matters. When you get paid over $21 million and become the highest paid player on the team, it is unacceptable to give up 4 runs in two starts and the other 3 runs in 4 2/3 innings. No excuses with that contract and the options a fully healthy Reds team has.

The old hat trick for Will Benson in his first 3 AB's back in the big leagues. Beating up on Verlander again. 0-4 4 K's now for Benson.
I was thinking the same thing. Why? He has never been able to hit major league pitching. Yes, he is good (not great) defensively and can cover some ground but...

Benson is the poor man's version of an overrated Jason Heyward. He's serviceable in AAA and maybe to fill a roster spot as a platoon player once in a blue moon, nothing more.

A healthy McClain, Stephenson, and Hays should make a substantial difference. We may never live to see that day, but it gives me hope all the same.

Graham Ashcraft is turning himself into a serious weapon. 2 more scoreless innings last night, and still hasn’t allowed a run this year.

I could also see him used as an opener or spot starter, too. Happy to see him thriving in his new role.

How is your MVP doing outside his 1 good game this year? I will tell you....9-50 (.180) inc. a stellar 6-39 (.154) in April.
2-19 (.105) against LHP....give up the SH already. He is overdue for his 1 good game a week, so look for some Sadak screaming this weekend.

Well, once you take away his bad games he’s hitting like .650 with a 2 billion OPS. But if you take away his good games he’s only hitting .183 with a WAR of negative pi times infinity.

Too soon to tell, but I like him. I’m assuming you don’t?

At the moment, my two season bets (Reds over 79.5 and Dodgers over 104.5) are about on track, probably will be a white knuckler on both.

Would be helpful if the Reds had at least one outfielder that could hit as good as any number of college OFs, in the SEC. 😒

Back to .500 with the sweep. Greene lowered the ERA to 0.98 with 7 scoreless, 8 K's, 2 hits and 1 BB. Espinal gave them a spark in the #2 spot with 2 hits, drove in 2 on a single in the 3rd.

Playing much better this past week and still with key players like Stephenson, Hays and Lowder not on the roster. Hunter Greene masterclass this afternoon. Something you come to expect each time he toes the rubber now.

Planning to go on Tuesday.... blame me if I ruin the 3 game streak.

McClain and Hays are back on Tuesday.

This staff is bonkers, and we’ve still got Rhett Lowder on the way.

If the first 10% of the season is a true indication, Reds pitching will carry them a good ways by itself.

Adding a healthy Hays into the lineup gives us a good shot at an average outfield, which is a huge improvement. Between he, Lux, and Fraley/Friedl, that's not too bad. We knew going into the season the outfield would be problematic, but we just need that group to be....well.......not terrible.

Bullpen = mercy. Ashcraft, Santillan, and Pagan look GREAT.

Hopefully they can keep it up. Wasn't Lodolo's best night. Hopefully Martinez can rebound tonight.
Bad nights happen to every pitcher. At least the Reds still were able to find a way to get the win with help from the offense. That is the main thing, and what we needed to see from Cincinnati to score runs on a pitcher like Luis Castillo.

I just want the Rotation to stay healthy all season and be able take occasional starts off to keep them preserved for later in the season. I know Ashcraft might replace Spiers pretty soon, but even Spiers is doing his part to not give up that spot easily.

Spiers is in Louisville now, sent him down on April 8th before Abbott returned last Saturday. No major update on Lowder other than Francona saying he threw a bullpen session yesterday.

Spiers is awful, and Ashcraft has proven in 3 yrs he isn't made out to be a SP. He needs to stay in middle relief, nothing more.

I meant to say Abbott instead of Ashcraft. But Spiers had a solid Spring and deserved the shot to start while Abbott finished his rehab. Ashcraft is doing a solid job out of the bullpen where he belongs, and he seems to be happy in that role.

Fraley hit a grand slam. Put the Reds up 7-5 in the bottom of the 8th.
Watching it too. Was confused when we had a man on first, Candelario with a batting average of .111 at the plate with a 3-0 count given the green light to swing. Worked out any way (he walked) but...
