@Tom McAndrew I didn't check closely before I started this new thread and now see you have a long-running 2025 Wrestlers movement; portal thread. Feel free to delete this thread if you think it best. Gaylon

I'm genuinely confused about the transfer portal. I thought once the UNC door closed, the portal window time was up? Or is the portal window merely a suggestion at this point 🤣

The deadline is to enter into the portal. I believe AJ never officially enrolled so he never officially left the portal. There is no deadline to exit the portal, at least I don't believe so.

Probably a good fit. They have past experience with dealing with delinquents on their football team.
Lawrence Phillips, Richie Incognito, and similar miscreants from Nebraska Football's past are no more relevant to Nebraska Wrestling than one particular person is to PSU Wrestling.

Trev Alberts might have been an exception, but he is no longer Nebraska AD.

Trev Alberts was a loud mouth punk too. I was referring to the athletics department in general.

No biggie. I was away from the board for several hours, and then merged the threads once I returned.

I do prefer the silo approach (threads set up on multiple topics, and posts about set topics be made in those respective threads). It will take some time for different communities to get used to the customs of the other community. And FWIW, there are things (news, actions, etc.) that while a subset of an existing thread, are worthy of a new thread. An example would be a verbal to PSU. There is a PSU recruiting thread, and if somebody verbals to PSU, a post (or more) about it will go in that thread. But a new verbal does warrant a new thread, so that folks don't miss it in a long, silo-style thread.

Returning AA McDanel is in the portal (or at least was earlier today). If he stays, then Ferrari's going up. HWT Andrews was not good last year -- losing record, went 1-4 at B10s, and DNQ.

If McDanel leaves, then Ferrari could go either weight but the lineup is better with him at 197. Allred is the only other returning 184/197 with a career winning record. The other guys at 184/197 are far worse options than Andrews at HWT. Nebraska has 2 good prospects at 174 (Araujo and Eise), but neither looks like a good option at 184 if Allred were to move up.

Of course, with Ferrari weighing 230 and continuing to lift, he'll probably be more effective at HWT. The cut to 197 would be brutal, and most of the HWT contenders this year are on the lighter side.

He's not in the portal WS made a mistake. The portal closed weeks ago and he wasn't in then either. I expect AJ at HWT.

For any who watched or listened to this #content, were there any mentions of: admission to the academic portion of the University?
I don't believe so interviews with athletes rarely discuss academics. AJ has good grades he may even get a 4.0 at Nebraska😂. He was over a 3.0 at Bakersfield

Does he get reduced tuition for being an AARP member?

He's actually 23 which for a college athlete these days isn't old . But I did lol. In the future your team will have guys older wrestling. You've a freshman coming in who will be 20 before the season starts FYI

Oh. I’m well aware. It all starts with the idiotic reclasses in HS, mainly in the private school ranks. It’s a massive pet peeve of mine. Ridiculous.

Look from them to hire within. Rumors that the program is in trouble and might not survive. The new coach needs to ask for a 3-5 year deal and if they're not willing then walk away.
Yeah, from what I've read, that feels like an internal or bust kind of situation. Hope the best for the program.

I thought the portal closed.

Scott Sentes resigned as the head coach at Campbell @ 2 weeks ago. (He became the Executive Director of the Wrestlers in Business Network.)

When there is a head coaching change, the portal is opened for athletes on the respective team for 30 days. (I believe the 30-day window is expanded to 30 days from the time the new coach is official, so Campbell wrestlers have more than 30 days.)
