157 SF- #2 PJ Duke vs. #3 Kannon Webster (IL)

Period 1:
Another big match for PJ. Here we go! Circling, hand fighting & tying up. PJ works a 2 on 1. Webster fights out of it. PJ gets to a leg, but Webster fights him off. Tying up & pushing, then they break. PJ gets to a bear hug, then comes behind & finishes the TD, 3-0. Out of bounds & restart. Webster is still down. He works to his feet & gets the escape, 3-1. Tying up & hand fighting. Stoppage for fingers. PJ reaches for a low leg, bu can't get there. PJ reaches again, but no luck. Collar ties & hand fighting. Webster picks an ankle. PJ throws in a whizzer & time expires, no scoring. 3-1 PJ, +16-sec RT

Period 2:
PJ takes down. He works to his feet & quickly gets the escape, 4-1. Back to hand fighting & collar ties. Webster with a half shot. PJ circles away. PJ with a half shot. PJ tries an underhook, but Webster pulls free. Webster shoots, but can't get there. More tying up & hand fighting until time expires. 4-1 PJ, +9-sec RT

Period 3:
Webster takes down. He works to his feet & gets the escape, 4-1. Tying up & hand fighting again. Webster reaches for a leg, but can't get there. PJ snaps, Webster reaches again, but no luck. PJ shoots, but Webster blocks him off. Webster shoots, but PJ circles away. Webster with another reach, 1-min left. PJ works the head & shoots for the legs, but Webster circles out of it. Tying up & hand fighting, 30-sec left. Webster shoots, but PJ blocks him off. Stalemate & restart. Time quickly expires after the restart.

My God are we spoiled.

A defending national champ and a returning national finalist, both undefeated, both lost their first match of the tourney -- and we're on edge because Shayne didn't beat a 3x AA by a wide enough margin.
There's no doubt we're spolied. However, SVN has shown a tendency to fall behind early that could come back to hurt him. I don't think that is an outlandish statement.

I don't think it's outlandish either, but I think many/most of us get SOOO weary of the armchair QBs that lose their minds anytime a PSU wrestler doesn't dominate. And then they presume that someone like Van Ness or even like Cael Sanderson aren't as deep-thinking as they are and haven't figured some of this stuff out.

Period 1:
Here we go! Circling & tying up. Sparks pushes forward a bit. Mesenbrink with some fakes. He shoots, but Sparks sprawls out of it. Stalemate & restart. Mesenbrink comes forward & reaches for a leg, but no luck. He keeps coming & takes Sparks to the edge. Sparks locks around the head. Stalemate & restart. Mesenbrink drops in on a leg. Sparks rolls. Mesenbrink keeps working & pulls Sparks back on the mat. Stoppage for potentially dangerous, neutral restart. Mesenbrink shoots & gets a leg. He's working to come up through the legs. He turns & finishes the TD, 3-0. Mesenbrink gets Sparks bellied out & is working an arm. Mesenbrink is working a wrist. Sparks can't get off his belly. Sparks gets a stall warning. Mesenbrink goes over 1-min of riding time. He looks for a tilt, but no luck. Mesenbrink rides out the period. 3-0 Mesenbrink, +1:13 RT

Period 2:
Mesenbrink takes down. He pops up, gets hand control & the escape, 4-0. Mesenbrink shoots & gets a leg. Sparks gets an ankle too. Mesenbrink works behind. Sparks hangs onto the leg. Stalemate & neutral restart no scoring. Mesenbrink shoots & gets in deep on a leg. He's trying to come out the back, then finishes the TD, 7-0. Mesenbrink gets Sparks bellied out again & gives the bow & arrow a try. No luck with that, but he goes over 90-sec of riding time. Sparks is still on his belly. Mesenbrink goes over 2-min of riding time. Mesenbrink bars an arm, but time expires. 7-0 Mesenbrink, +2:11 RT

Period 3:
Sparks takes down. He works to his feet & gets the escape, 7-1. Mesenbrink shoots & gets to a leg, then finishes another TD, 10-1. Mesenbrink cuts Sparks, 10-2. Mesenbrink shoots, gets a leg & finishes another TD, 13-2. Mesenbrink cuts Sparks, 13-3. Mesenbrink shoots a double. Sparks gets a leg too. Stalemate & restart. Mesenbrink snaps, then shoots another double & finishes the TD, 16-3. Mesenbrink gets Sparks bellied out. Mesenbrink cuts Sparks, 16-4. Mesenbrink shoots & catches Sparks on his back. Sparks rolls through, but Mesenbrink finishes another TD for the 19-4 Techfall!!!

Unlike PSU football under Franklin, PSU wrestling under Sanderson is truly elite. We deserve dominance :cool:

Period 1:
Levi time! Here we go! Circling, hand fighting & tying up. Levi with some snaps. Kharchla with some head taps. Hard hand fighting in the center. Kharchla shoots. Levi sprawls back. Stalemate & restart, no scoring. Circling & hand fighting. Heavy collar ties & hand fighting in the center. Kharchla tries an underhook. Levi pulls out of it, 1-min left. Kharchla shoots & gets a leg, but Levi sprawls back. Stalemate & restart, no scoring. More tying up & hand fighting. Levi shoots & gets to a leg, but Kharchla fights out of it. Kharchla locks around the head. Stalemate & restart. Levi shoots & gets to a leg & finishes the TD, but time expired. 0-0

Period 2:
Levi takes down. He pops to his feet, gets hand control & the escape, 1-0. Back to tying up & hand fighting. Kharchla shoots, but no luck. Levi presses forward now. He shoots, but Kharchla blocks him off & locks around the head. Stalemate & restart. Kharchla shoots & gets a leg. Levi locks around the waist. Kharchla can't do anything & it's another stalemate & restart. Levi presses forward. Kharchla reaches for a leg, but no luck. Levi shoots & gets a leg. Kharchla locks through the crotch. Levi keeps working & finishes the TD, 4-0. Levi rides out the final few seconds. 4-0 Levi, +4-sec RT

Period 3:
Kharchla takes down. Levi buries Kharchla's face into the mat. Kharchla is struggling to do anything from bottom. He sits out, but then Levi gets him bellied out. Levi throws in a boot. Kharchla tries to come up, but no luck. He tries again, but same result. Levi goes over 1-min of riding time. Kharchla works to his feet, but Levi jacks him up & brings him back to the mat. Levi is smothering Kharchla from top. Kharchla gets to one leg, but time expires. Levi adds a riding time point, 5-0 decision!
