Cole’s other issue is his top game. Never seems committed to the ride. If you’re gonna be successful at 285, you have to be able to ride. Riding wears guys down. So because he can’t ride, his opponents are fresher. Then he gets in bottom and gets ridden and it wears him down. He needs to develop a better top game.

Cole needs to be a neutral only guy against top 25 wrestlers....unless he can add 15-25 pounds of good weight this offseason. Just not enough horsepower to ride or get off bottom at 220 pounds.

Seems like Coles MO is quick first period strikes. TF or Fall. He had Ben dead to rights in the first but Ben turned it around. After that, he was shot. Third period for Cole seems like he either hangs on, or does enough to get close but can’t finish. We’ll see how he looks in the next match and then nationals. He still has AA capabilities which was a huge unknown starting the season
I've watched him since high school. I've never seen him spent like that. He must be absolutely gassed at this point.

Our lead over OSU is now 11 points. Several defaults have helped them along.

They went 7 for 7 in the last round, and now have 3 wrestlers going for 1st and 5 for 3rd tonight.

Wisconsin’s 165 pounder Cody Goebel won his 9th place bout just now and as soon as the whistle ended the bout he ran directly to his coach’s outstretched arms so happy. Love to see this emotion. Then he had to go back to the center to shake his opponent hand and get his arm raised.

He'll probably be 10th. He's 8th in the coaches poll, but would've been seeded behind 9 Taylor due to H2H anyway. He'll probably be below 10 Kueter now. Beat 11 Amos H2H. Finished ahead of 12 Hopke. 13 Colbert will drop after getting pinned at EIWA semis by Schon.

The hard one to tell is 7 Carroll. Has H2H over Mirasola but flamed out at B12, will drop in the coaches poll but by how much?
Looks like big 12 auto qualifies 6 at 285. Carroll only made round of 12. He does have some excellent wins though.

Cole is tired. Wrestling is hard.
They are all tired. I don’t get that Cole can’t finish and push up on Taye or get out from kueter who has wrestled poorly as of late and same weight. Don’t know why he is gassed already. He better figure it out for NCAAs. We need at least 3 matches from him and possible bonus to start,

For how tough the season has been for Kueter and Ayala, both are wrestling for 3rd tonight. Seems like they’re okay after all.

141 7th Place (mat 3) - #6 Braeden "Scooter" Davis vs. #8 Billy DeKraker (NU)

Period 1:
Another fantastic opportunity to watch a PSU wrestler this morning. Entertain us Scooter! Here we go. Circling, tying up & hand fighting. Davis drops in on a leg, lifts DeKraker off the mat & brings him back down for the TD, 3-0. DeKraker works to his feet, but they go out of bounds. Stall warning on DeKraker. DeKraker works to his feet again & gets the escape, 3-1. Tying up & hand fighting. Davis with some snaps, 2-min left. DeKraker reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Davis presses forward a bit. DeKraker pushes back to center. Davis with some fakes, 1-min left. DeKraker shoots a double from way out. Davis gets an underhook. Stalemate & restart, 45-sec left. Circling & hand fighting with some tying up. Davis shoots, but DeKraker blocks him off. Davis works a front headlock until time expires. 3-1 Davis, +22-sec RT

Period 2:
DeKraker takes down. He pops to his feet, but Davis trips him back to the Resilite. DeKraker pops back up, but Davis brings him back to the mat. DeKraker works to a tripod, but Davis is smothering him from top. DeKraker works to his feet again, but they go out of bounds, restart. DeKraker is still down. He pops to his feet & grabs a leg. Stalemate & restart. Davis is up to 1:20 in riding time. DeKraker works to his feet again, but only for a moment before Davis gets him bellied out in the center of the Resilite. Davis is working a tight waist & a wrist. DeKraker is struggling to get off bottom, like Cole did. DeKraker works back to his base, then stands, but can't get hand control & Davis hangs on to ride out the period. 3-1 Davis, +2:22 RT

Period 3:
Davis takes down. DeKraker concedes the escape, 4-1, neutral start. Circling & hand fighting. DeKraker shoots for a leg. Davis rolls onto his back & gets an ankle. Yikes! They keep rolling & Davis comes out on top for the TD, 7-1. Huzzah! DeKraker works to 1-foot, but Davis is pinching the other leg with both his legs & DeKraker can't get any further. Davis gets DeKraker bellied out again & goes over 3-min of riding time. Davis looks for a tilt, but can't hold it long enough for points. Davis is just hammering DeKraker from top. DeKraker just can't get away. He works to his feet, but Davis jacks him up & brings him back to his belly. Davis rides out the period for the win. He adds a riding time point too, 8-1.

Braeden Davis DEC Billy DeKraker 8-1

Scooter takes 7th Place & earns an automatic bid to NCAAs! Nice job Scooter! His battery was fully charged for that match! Scooter might look like a 12-year old, but he manhandled DeKraker today!

It’s what scooter looks like when he doesn’t make weight!

Sorry if I'm late to the party here: Cole Mirasola's fifth place match opponent will be Braxton Amos of Wisconsin.

Does it hurt him if he doesn’t wrestle him for NCAAs. Already beat him twice. If he is gassed why put the blemish on there.

Cole and Davis will both give us some points at Nationals. Whole different tournament we have almost 2 weeks to prepare. Think positive. Gives Cole a little time to add 5 pounds and get stronger as well. Davis can shock a lot of people if he manages his weight and works on his baseline defense and working ANGLES on his Shots

yes, I know. that's not what I was saying. Cole isn't gaining 5 pounds in 2 weeks. At least not useful weight. It's 2 weeks. These guys are maintaining peak physical shape and not getting injured. not learning anything new right now.

please stop.

OK.....he needs a better top game. He needs to get better off bottom. He needs to gain weight. He needs to get stronger. He will be a top 10 heavyweight at NCAAs. Perhaps we need to get better at typing stuff :)

I think it's only been once, but it could. placement in conf tourney is a factor in seeding.

Everyone wants Cole to come in and just dominate. HWT is the one weight class that needs time to develop. It's very rare for freshmen to be top guys. He'll be fine as long as he keeps developing. IMO he's already ahead of schedule.

Cole should never take bottom
I was thinking taking bottom was OK, but he needs to be more explosive off the bottom. They are somewhat deliberate coming off bottom. Mostly to protect the hands from getting trapped and being vulnerable to tilts and what have you. At heavyweight that is not much of a thing. Explode off the darn bottom.
