Penn State freshman Marcus Blaze will face Virginia Tech's Aaron Seidel in the third place match at 133 pounds. Classmate PJ Duke will take on Brandon Cannon of Ohio State in the 157-pound third place match.
The only thing AJ hurt was his pride. He got ragdolled last night.

Cannon has to be as mad as anyone at last night's ref. He's gotta get ran over a 3rd time in two weeks now.

Think about the big picture for a few minutes.
In a regular season match, you only have the 10 wrestlers competing one time.
In a tournament, they can compete quite a few times. And the way the consolation brackets are set up, a wrestler that loses in the opening round and then makes it all the way to the 3rd place match would have more matches than a wrestler that never lost (including the final). But if you scored it the same as a regular season match, then the wrestler that won all those consolation matches would/could score more points than the wrestler that took 1st place. Is that really what you want?
So they had to come up with a mechanism to make winning on the championship side more valuable than winning on the consolation side. It's actually a pretty sound system.
People know the scoring system for regular duals because they are 90% of the what fans watch. By comparison, most don't know the intricacies of the tournament scoring because they only see that a few times a year.

I think we can say with confidence the true freshman handled their losses well. Blaze comes back and techs Knox, and Duke comes back and beats a damn good Webster. Regardless of the next matches results, they've had a hell of a season and a hell of a tournament. Glad they're with us.

True, but PSU also got 2 bonus points due to Allred's MFF. Then Ryder got the same.
Edit - Then DT and OkieState got 2 more cheapies when AJ Ferrari MFF's to 6th place. The difference is that Allred was really injured. Who knows what AJ's deal is?
