I wish I was more confident. Will need to improve and have the other guys stay stagnant or regress.Yeah I wouldn't go that far. I don't think this will age well. His upside is tremendous, he will win national titles.

That's not at all true. Cael went after both Blaze and Forrest. Forrest was all but wrapped up to OKST while Smith was still the coach, and yet PSU was still a finalist.Sounds like Cael picked him over Forrest and Seidel, so what do I know? I hope he proves me wrong.

This. It is human nature to keep doing what has worked for you in the past. His losses this season can be helpful in that respect as I think the losses will motivate him to focus on those areas where he needs improvement. Someone else pointed out that he and PJ's struggles involved the top and bottom positions, which tend to be issues with most freshmen. They both also spent a lot of time wrestling freestyle this summer. I don't think the benefits of a Redshirt freshman year can be minimized, even for top wrestlers. The skill level needed to be successful on top and bottom in HS isn't remotely close to what is needed in college. Color me not worried about either one of them. Some of these takes on Blaze are ******* bonkers! People saying he’s the least talented or that he’s close to his ceiling?! Seriously?! Obviously he didn’t have the finish everyone hoped for but Davino who had a redshirt wrestled him 3 times and never scored an offensive point. I think that in the long run these loses will be great for him. He now has very clear deficiencies to work on and he has the best coaches in the world to help him fix those problems. I still think he matches up the best against Jax of the 3 freshmen. Marcus does best when people come at him. Davino wrestles him completely different than he does everyone else and it’s because he learned in freestyle it’s not good to just fire off a ton of attacks against him. I don’t think Jax will change his style and it could feed into what Marcus does best.
I also still believe that Blaze is the best freestyler. His style is perfect for that rule set. He constantly takes ground so he barely goes on the clock. His opponent is always on the edge so he can get easy step outs. It will be interesting this summer to see him, Jax, and Davino compete. I don’t care either way if he redshirts or not. I personally don’t think it makes sense for next year. Maybe the following year with the Olympics on the horizon.
I definitely expected him to finish higher than 4th but it hasn’t changed my opinion of him. He’s going to win national titles and Olympic medals. This off season is going to be huge for him and I think he comes back much improved. It’s hard to change your style when you are always winning. Now he knows he needs to work on certain things to get back on top. I 100% think that will happen
I really like Blaze but I can be objective. Blaze in the same sense, hasn't score a takedown against devino or seidel in 4 combined matches. And his bottom game is worse right now than devino and seidel. Can't say how he compares to blaze because they didn't wrestle. Seidel should have beaten Jax in the dual meet, but match this weekend wasn't even close. Freestyle is a different beast and those results may be different. Some of these takes on Blaze are ******* bonkers! People saying he’s the least talented or that he’s close to his ceiling?! Yes, but Marcus isn't a fellow Pennsylvania Dutchman like Seidel so I don't care. That's not at all true. Cael went after both Blaze and Forrest. Forrest was all but wrapped up to OKST while Smith was still the coach, and yet PSU was still a finalist.
This is a good time for a reminder: Cael's recruiting philosophy is to go get future world champs and NCAAs will take care of itself. Blaze has 2 world titles and a bronze (losing to Ono), and twice made the senior world team. During his 2 senior world trials, he beat: Nico, Lilledahl, Forrest, Gross, Garrett, Fix, Tomasello, Bassett, and Hardy He beat Matt Ramos after Ramos had pinned Lord Spencer. All of this while still in HS.
Blaze was not a wrong choice.
Now there's a little perspective! That's not at all true. Cael went after both Blaze and Forrest. Forrest was all but wrapped up to OKST while Smith was still the coach, and yet PSU was still a finalist.

@lionlover ???Do you remember. I went to a few weddings that are "blurry".
I think that will all change next year. Spending another year in the best college room in the nation tends to do that.I really like Blaze but I can be objective. There's a reason it's known as the nation's biggest ***-kicking contest.Other than the few questionable MFFs this morning, this tournament is just brutal physically. I can't imagine how sore and beat up these guys are by the end. It must also be a gut punch to have to get yourself down to weight for the next day, especially after a heartbreaking loss. I especially admire those wrestlers who come back Saturday morning and compete hard even though for many of them they are wrestling for a podium spot they will not be remotely satisfied with. Wrestlers are warriors!

Right. Those Ferrari boys do it for the love of the game.Fluffers dont have contracts, so i've heard
Fingers crossed. I am hopeful.I think that will all change next year. Spending another year in the best college room in the nation tends to do that.
When were you born during the depression. Why not Limburger cheese and sliced onion on rye with mustard wtf already lolMy God. The other day, sauerkraut, sausage, and potatoes on homemade sourdough bread with Hellmann's Mayo! Also, some sharp cheddar. Heaven between slices! Well done!
At the game?Brutal. One of my good friends got married on the day Miami FL played PSU at home. Guess where I was?
Because some fella named johnstownsteel was persistent. That's not at all true. Cael went after both Blaze and Forrest. Forrest was all but wrapped up to OKST while Smith was still the coach, and yet PSU was still a finalist.
I agree. Marcus is world class and can beat anyone anytime some on here are implying he is a tier below the others which is nonsenseI respect everyone’s opinion. But Marcus was unbelievably close to making the finals and pretty close to finishing a TD on Seidel and taking 3rd. He was one of four guys with a shot to win a championship this year and I’m guessing the other three aren’t considering the benefits of a redshirt season.
Davino did redshirt.
Exactly. Imagine if Marcus took this year off and rs then started next year as a freshman. Big differenceDavino did redshirt.
I'm just saying, I knew people (not here) who were whining after Zain lost to Port and Stieber.I get this, but comparisons to Zain aren't fair to Blaze for a couple reasons.
First, Zain had
I understand Blaze didn’t score either. My point is that a lot of people are making it sound like he is way behind these guys. He’s not. He’s right there. He’s as close with Davino as is possible. 3 matches and neither guy scored an offensive pointI really like Blaze but I can be objective. Blaze in the same sense, hasn't score a takedown against devino or seidel in 4 combined matches. And his bottom game is worse right now than devino and seidel. You seem overly aggressive the past two days lol. You okay lol you were much more laid back then previous years. I feel your pain thoughThis takes serious kahoonies for an OSU dude to post such nonsense. The school with over 500 victims and still refuses to pay. F tOSU.
He gets testy this time of year, he’ll be okYou seem overly aggressive the past two days lol. You okay lol you were much more laid back then previous years. I feel your pain though
I’m wondering if Manning is going to give his guys 3rd Place rings this year? Instead of saying “Runner Up” they could say “Runner Up to the Runner Up”. Just a thought…
I get this, but comparisons to Zain aren't fair to Blaze. Zain's competitiveness was off the charts even by the standards of NCAA champions. FR Zain was a 133 who wrestled up at 141. Also: Zain.Yes, but Marcus isn't a fellow Pennsylvania Dutchman like Seidel so I don't care.
I'm kidding![]()
Blaze will have a great career. I seem to recall a true freshman 141 pounder who took time to develop offense. I believe his name was Retherford...
that dude gets that way now, and he used to as well. crazy thing is I think he used to be a modYou seem overly aggressive the past two days lol. You okay lol you were much more laid back then previous years. I feel your pain though
Gabe may be wrestling at 184 next year. Little birdies are chirping in Iowa
No hotshoe is okaythat dude gets that way now, and he used to as well. crazy thing is I think he used to be a mod
I think it's worse when he's drinking
Yeah, yeah, but what about his hips? That's not at all true. Cael went after both Blaze and Forrest. Forrest was all but wrapped up to OKST while Smith was still the coach, and yet PSU was still a finalist.

I wasn't crushed by Blaze losing to Seidel because Seidel is, I believe, the first AA from Lebanon County, PA where I grew up and wrestled. But, yeah, Seidel was too tough on top for Blaze and a better scrambler. I also believe PSU will break the 177 mark tonight
Marcus is am amazingly talented true freshman who we all knew a month ago was going to win nationals against 3 other amazingly talented freshmen. He was so good, wrestles in "OUR" room with "OUR" staff, man a another 4 timer.I agree. Marcus is world class and can beat anyone anytime some on here are implying he is a tier below the others which is nonsense
Fourth at nationals for a true freshman is an astounding achievement, regardless. Some of us were of the opinion early in the season that he may be (at this point) a step behind Forrest, Blaze, and possibly Seidel in folkstyle. We're all welcome to our opinions, even if others may not agree. I was rooting for him to be atop the podium, doesn't bring me any joy because he finished at NCAAs pretty much where I thought he would.Marcus is am amazingly talented true freshman who we all knew a month ago was going to win nationals against 3 other amazingly talented freshmen. The kid DISAPPOINTED us, he must be and will be thrased on this board daily until our hurt feelings and disappointment dissipate or he wins us a title.
And, oh my we might lose the title next year and if not next year definitely the year after.
Penn State wrestling fandom. It's predictability has no mystery.
My post is not directed at you.
My statement that Cael picked Blaze over Forrest and Seidel is based solely on what I recall reading here. The breadth of my NCAA wrestling recruiting knowledge comes from this board. If my statement was incorrect, then it was incorrect. That's not at all true. Cael went after both Blaze and Forrest. Forrest was all but wrapped up to OKST while Smith was still the coach, and yet PSU was still a finalist.
