well, the opponents do get a little tougher the closer you get to the finals match. The opponents want to win too, and some of them are pretty good.
Merrill is a less then average wrestler he plays that late takedown ********
Not until he adds 30# of muscle. He is seriously smaller than Trumble. He did a great job to beat a lot 9f bigger guys.
And the ref in Barrs match had the stones to announce lets have some more action gentleman.
Merrel deserved at least 3 stall calls.
Am I the only one that finds JB extremely annoying?
What is McGowan going to do here? I'm guessing this won't be a replay of the dual season finale?
BTW, when was the last time PSU's final dual meet had a preview of a national final? I bet we never thought we'd see that.

Merrill is NOT “less than average”. Come on. You don’t make the national finals being less than average. His style sucks but it works for him. He’s always wrestled this way and always been extremely successful. Hopefully more guys figure out how to beat him.

That is what I’m talking about with Trumble. Legs in, flattening him out, cross body ride. That is the way you do it.

So you admit that guys are tightening up and suddenly wrestling the “Iowa style” everyone complains about and it’s now ok because it’s a big match?
No. Look, it’s splitting hairs, but before last year, PSU had 26 one-seeds under Cael and produced 21 champions from them. That’s 81%.
The past 2 years we’ve had 11 one-seeds. If Luke wins, it’ll be 6 champs. That’s 55%.
Like I said, there are more guys lately getting those one-seeds, and there are more/better offseason international results, but it’s something that has happened nonetheless.

Back to hand fighting & collar ties with McGowan up & down from 1-knee. Luke come forward a bit. McGowan tries a 2 on1 & Luke pulls out of it. Luke pushes forward & shoots, but McGowan blocks him off. Luke has McGowan on the edge now. He tries a 2 on 1 & pushes McGowan around the edge. McGowan drops to his knees. McGowan takes down. Caution on Luke. McGowan turtles up off the whistle. He works to his feet & Luke lets him go, 1-0. Luke pushes forward taking McGowan to the edge again. Luke shoots, but McGowan circles away. McGowan shoots & they go out of bounds, neutral restart. Luke comes forward again. McGowan gets a stall call, finally. Luke snaps & looks for an opening, but McGowan is blocking everything off. Luke takes McGowan to the edge & he drops to both knees. Stoppage & restart. Hand fighting & snaps. Luke pushes forward again. McGowan pushes back. Stoppage & restart for something. Tying up & hand fighting to end the period. 1-0 McGowan

Luke takes down. He sits out, then works to his feet & gets the escape, 1-1. Luke presses forward again taking McGowan to the edge. McGowan circles back to center. McGowan's backing up & blocking off, but not much else. Come on Luke, push the pace! McGowan gets another stall call, point Luke, 2-1. McGowan comes forward now taking Luke to the edge. He shoots, but Luke circles away. McGowan brings Luke back to the edge & shoots, but Luke circles away. They're down on their knees & locked up on the edge, as time expires. Way to go Luke!!!
