If you had done your job he would be a PSU boy. Dammn it.
Back when he and Bassett were in 9th grade there was only a handful of us that were saying Jax would turn out to be the best of all the McCruit kids. El jefe was one I think. I'm looking forward to see if that plays out. Looks good so far..

Looking ahead and at a couple young kids at or close to being st PSU... Henckle I see as a Levi type kid, grinder that just gets sh it done. Jayden James folks.... that's the one I think is gonna be Jason Nolf type special. Gonna be a scoring machine. I like the heavy weight kid that will be coming in. Mirasola might be in trouble in his own room eventually let alone what other teams have. We got a great young 125 lber to replace Luke eventually. And I think you're gonna see some huge hauls in recruiting next few years cuz....well ....cuz Cael doesn't lose.
I am pumped to watch Jayden's Penn State career!

What an amazing year. Lots to be grateful for and yet lots to work on. Barr keeps getting better MM gets better Levi gets better. Luke gets better. The template is there, both for freestyle and folk style. Great freshman class…….the guys who rolled and the guys who redshirted. Rocco was an upgrade. Ono, who knows but he certainly appears to be fun to have around.

Wow!
Hope you’re right because next year we’re going to need 8 scoring wrestlers to win!!!!!!!

A couple of observations;

Tan Tom was rarely in the corner, don’t think he cornered for the finals, only saw him a couple of times the whole tournament.

They gave the trophy to Ono, he was like a kid in a candy shop holding it up, no one would take it away from him, they stuck him with it.

Scooter dwarfs Ono, no way he goes 141, he could go 126.
Desmond at 141 next year is my wild guess for next year.

But still not as wild a theory as I saw a reputable person on Twitter post for next year. Predicted next year’s lineup to go Henckel/Cunningham/Welsh/Barr 174-Heavy.

I'm not that smart about 9th graders.

I might have said it in 10th grade, and am certain I did last year.

Unlike Robideau, Mendez still had a leg when the takedown was called.

Anyway, I can't believe SR Mendez took that shot, knowing that Vega's big trick is the counter cradle, after training with Jaggers for 4 years, after getting away with it in regulation when they went out of bounds, with a free stall call to give, and while being likely to win in rideouts.

Just a colossal brain fart by a 2x national champ.
Despite his advantageous positioning to be a 3 timer, he just wasn't. He was good enough to be a two timer, and that's the way it ended up.

Jax was dynamic all year but personally I think what Vega did was much more impressive. He just doesn't get the pub like hs kid Jax gets.
This is how tough this tournament is. Mendez, who is considered an all-timer (and rightfully so, he’s had an amazing college career) is arguably a desperation roll through and 4 seconds of riding time away from never winning a title. Just so tough to win. Makes MM and Jax making things look so easy just that much more unbelievable.

Yep...ok st is coming but don't ever underestimate the competitive juices that flow through Caels veins. I wouldn't be surprised if we see an even bigger jump for his program. You think he steals recruits now in late stages of the process? Just wait. And don't be surprised if you see an occasional national champ here and there transfer in. Cael doesn't settle for being second best to anyone.
I just dont get all this they are coming stuff. They were pretty bad so of course they would improve. But some act like PSU is going to rest easy. PSU will get plenty of the top recruits. The fertile grounds where PSU sits is going to produce top talent.

Also, coaching on the mat is not the total job. There are going to be issues to deal with. That is something the PSU coaches have done pretty well.

Penn State coach Cael Sanderson met with the media after his team set a points record and won its fifth straight championship on Saturday night. What did he say?

Full transcript: https://on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/everything-cael-sanderson-said-after-penn-state-wrestling-set-a-record-won-their-fifth-straight-ncaa-championship/

CS: “I mean, we just — our guys move forward. You watch the matches and our guys are moving forward the whole time. If they had a push-out rule, that would be great for our program. I hope they do.

“I was against that for all these years, but it’s probably something to — because it’s just really hard to call stalling. Refs, obviously don’t want to call stalling even when they are stalling.

I'm for it too!

That’s interesting because I know a guy that lived in that area and said everyone sends their kids to private schools because the public schools are terrible. He made it sound like education wasn’t really a priority down there.

I can't see Forrest holding 133 next year. And I can't see Bassett moving up to 49. McCort on McCort next year will be glorious because one of them is going to lose

Not picking on you but too lazy to quote everybody saying this ...

Every year we complain about refs not calling stalling ... and it's been decades. There's no reason to believe that will change.

But then NCAA made an actual well-known stalling tactic legal. So what are the refs supposed to do?

This is on the NCAA Wrestling Committee to fix ... but unfortunately rule changes are in 2-yr cycles, so it looks like we'll have to put up with this dreck again next year at least.
It seems to be way worse this year. Or i am just becoming far less tolerant of it.

Plus the review system is complete ****. If they arent going to bother getting it right, get rid of it.

Tell me this is AI

What’s with him sticking cue tips way up both nostrils? They go to the corner to clean the blood, then they call people out to clean up the mat, they do this 4 or 5 times.
He supposedly hurt his knee but he walked just fine watching the finals. He walked right up to the edge of the mat to coach Taylor, security had to move him back.

Angelo did walk with a limp.

They did suspend the entire program from post-season participation for 2 seasons. I mean, yeah, for the same thing other programs and other schools do all the time.
And yet they were still allowed to compete in the smallest classification with public schools. It’s BS. Bottom line, put all the privates in one classification. Grow a set PIAA.

Really bummed for Shayne and Rocco tonight and our other guys who came up short.

Was just thinking there’s no shame in Rocco losing a close match to McEnelly. In the beginning of the year, with the talent at 184, I would have been thrilled if you told me Rocco would take second.
So bummed for SVN. After he got that first takedown to essentially tie the match if memory serves me I thought he was going to roll, but it just didn’t happen. The blood timeouts were ashame because his gas tank always has him owning the 3rd period. With Bassett coming in next year, likely at 149 and possibly a Vega move up or even Jax jump, a national title next year will be even more tough sledding than this year I’m afraid.

AJ was limping because Bastida took his manhood.

I didnt read this whole thread so I apologize if this is redundant. But wrestling is a weird sport. You win 4 nattys and set the scoring record, you tie the record and send 6 to the finals. And all I can think about is how gutted I am for Blaze, PJ, SVN and Rocco. Is wrestling the only sport where you get invested in the KIDS more than the team?? In time it will turn to appreciation for a phenomenal year. But not tonight.
