McGowan drops to a knee. Collar ties & snaps. Luke reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Heavy hand fighting. Stoppage & restart for some reason. Back to hand fighting & collar ties with McGowan up & down from 1-knee. Luke come forward a bit. McGowan tries a 2 on1 & Luke pulls out of it. Luke pushes forward & shoots, but McGowan blocks him off. Luke has McGowan on the edge now. He tries a 2 on 1 & pushes McGowan around the edge. McGowan drops to his knees. McGowan's not doing anything & the period ends. 0-0

Period 2:
McGowan takes down. Caution on Luke. McGowan turtles up off the whistle. He works to his feet & Luke lets him go, 1-0. Luke pushes forward taking McGowan to the edge again. Luke shoots, but McGowan circles away. McGowan shoots & they go out of bounds, neutral restart. Luke comes forward again. McGowan gets a stall call, finally. Luke snaps & looks for an opening, but McGowan is blocking everything off. Luke takes McGowan to the edge & he drops to both knees. Stoppage & restart. Hand fighting & snaps. Luke pushes forward again. McGowan pushes back. Stoppage & restart for something. Tying up & hand fighting to end the period. 1-0 McGowan

Period 3:
Luke takes down. He sits out, then works to his feet & gets the escape, 1-1. Luke presses forward again taking McGowan to the edge. McGowan circles back to center. McGowan's backing up & blocking off, but not much else. Come on Luke, push the pace! McGowan gets another stall call, point Luke, 2-1. McGowan comes forward now taking Luke to the edge. He shoots, but Luke circles away. McGowan brings Luke back to the edge & shoots, but Luke circles away. They're down on their knees & locked up on the edge, as time expires. Way to go Luke!!!

Luke Lilledahl DEC Marc-Anthony McGowan 2-1

Luke Lilledahl takes 1st Place & ends the curse of 125!!!
Lightning Luke looks like he has Sweet syndrome with those ears

If memory serves me right, Cael has yet to get 5 individual national champions in a single year. Obviously we were robbed at 157, though. McEnelly seems like a good guy and Valencia wrestled well so I am not especially pissed there.

For most every other match here (finals especially) when the guys met before they say when they met and the score. They waited part way into the match to say they met and Luke won... with no score or context. No let the world know what he did.. bc they just sat it again

The craziest thing to me about Jax is how quickly he developed a leg attack. Not long ago he was almost entirely slide by dependent. Within a year he become a very elite leg attacker

Are you hammered? Yeah, pretty friggin stupid comment.

Maybe we should go back a few years and win 4 and finish in 2nd place.

Or only get 5 or 6 to the semis, but win 5.

Think about before you have another white claw.

Our finals percentage has always been much lower than our semifinal percentage. But we used to get far fewer semifinalists. Do you think we can keep up over 80% getting 9 or 10 to the semis???? Just stupid.
I think blaze would benefit by concentrating on folk this summer and hit the weights. Especially on bottom position.

Odd stall call if you ask me but whatever. Can't complain about how much stalling occurs and then not like it I suppose.

Doesn't matter if they don't call them.
Not picking on you but too lazy to quote everybody saying this ...

Every year we complain about refs not calling stalling ... and it's been decades. There's no reason to believe that will change.

But then NCAA made an actual well-known stalling tactic legal. So what are the refs supposed to do?

This is on the NCAA Wrestling Committee to fix ... but unfortunately rule changes are in 2-yr cycles, so it looks like we'll have to put up with this dreck again next year at least.

Still not 1 shot by Luke

When somebody is constantly giving ground.... wrestling with back to boundary and hanging on head.... you can't just "shoot" for the sake of shooting. That's how you give up stupid points and play into what the other guy wants you to do. Anybody who's wrestled understands exactly what Burroughs pointed out multiple times - LL was clearly the aggressor 100% of the time... he initiated all of the exchanges... and deserved to be rewarded for that. If you can't see that McGowan was wrestling in a completely passive, defensive and "stalling" style, you don't know wrestling.

Team underperformed this year. Five guys finished below their seed and no one finished above seed. Yet somehow we won our fifth straight title and set records for most bonus points and most total point. What could they do if they ever wrestle to their potential? 😂
