Sanchez gives up 4 runs in the first and Phillies behind again after 1 inning. Ridiculous

ridiculous would be overreacting in the 1st inning.

currently, 5-5, top of the 7th. Fightins are at bat with the bases loaded, 2 outs. Hopefully, JT can get a hit to put them ahead.

lol, JT would have had an infield hit (and driven in a run). But, he tripped on his bat running to 1st, which enabled the SS (or 3rd baseman; I forget) to throw JT out at 1st.

I am noting ridiculous in how the Phils can’t get out of the first inning without being behind in this series and yes it was ridiculous and even more ridiculous were the last 3 games 9th innings for the Phillies.

Meanwhile, the Braves have been stumbling. Phillies are only 4 games back. Marlins are 7 games back.

Should be a good second half race for playoff spots.

Would be ironic if Mattingly makes the HOF as a manager. But for a chronic back condition, he'd have waltzed in as a player. IMO should be there anyway.

What a time to be alive. We may never see three straight games like that the rest of our lives.

Go Phils

yeah, it was quite enjoyable. The only thing I can imagine that would have made it even better was if it had occurred in the postseason. In that context, it did remind me a bit of the 1980 NLCS, which remains, IMHO, the best NLCS in the long history of baseball.

It’s a long season. Baseball is all about the journey. And then let’s see about the postseason

The starting pitching is what makes them a real post season contender

Until they fired topper and the season turned on a dime, I thought this Phillies summer might be shot

instead we definitely have a long journey for another season

At the half way point of the marathon, idle thoughts.

1- Mattingly might be the team MVP at the half way point. I would never say that Topper lost the room, but I think it was comfortable for the players. After the change, Mattingly told them that they were the reason for Topper’s firing and it was on them. He still holds a ton of gravitas. Everyone knows who Mattingly was and the easiest way for me to say it is that I don’t think Nick would have ever considered bringing a beer into Mattingly’s dugout.

2- We all see who they are and when Kyle and Bryce are firing, they are formidable. Offensively, I’m still concerned in a lineup that is L-L-L for 2-4 spots in the playoffs. Imagine Chapman or any wipeout LHP reliever facing them with the Phils down in the 9th. I’d love to see some break but absent Buxton, I’m not sure who they add. I’d love to see Bohm light it up and get into that section of the lineup but he also is prone to hitting into double plays and killing off innings. Heck, if you line up your best hitters behind Turner, you’d probably have Stott fifth which is another lefty.

3- At this point if I were Dombrowski, I’d focus more on a starter and maybe relief help as well. A guy like Buehler would look so good right now. If Painter was to reset, I’d consider that found money. It would be nice to add another lefty in the pen given how Alvarado is so up and down. Keller needs to show better but the pieces are there.

4- What can go right? I think Trea just needs to let the game flow and get outside his head a bit. He’s Trea F’in Turner, stop thinking and just play loose like Marsh. If they can get better versions of Trea and Bohm, they will be a tough out. Those two guys are massive pieces to this puzzle.

5- Sanchez is great but Zach reminds you of who he is every start. He’s money and what he’s done off an injury that was a bit of unchartered water has been amazing. The three big guns are enough to get this done if they are part of the postseason tourney.

Can they win the whole thing? Absolutely. 1980 and 2008 were not their best teams of those eras. This team has flaws but is still capable. Just keep them healthy and enjoy since nuclear war is on the labor horizon. If the owners stick to what has been said, they might never play again.

As far as trades at the deadline, they are bringing a knife to a gun fight. I don’t expect much and the team (besides the obvious ATM in LA) that concerns me a lot is the Brewers. They have farm talent sufficient to acquire Skubal and pairing him with Miz is scary to think about.
