Helpful hint: asking yourself “Should I say this?” is an underrated life hack.
It will be almost impossible to trade Turner, Realmuto and Nola because of their long term contracts
Turner could probably be moved still. However, at this point he might be looking at a position switch or DH role. The other two…..
When Brodes is on, I change to another station. I just can't listen to him.
He's primarily a hockey guy, so the Flyers are his main focus.
Most of his rants, or even positions, are over the top, high drama, etc. I guess it attracts calls, but it's kind of impossible to listen to if you're a serious sports fan. (FWIW, I rarely listen to WIP these days, but have been listening somewhat of late due to the start of Eagles training camp. And after just a few days of increasing my listening, I'm pretty much sick of it.)
The thing that will likely keep the Phils afloat is their schedule.
Between now and September they will face TWO teams with winning records (as of today) - the Nats and the Marlins - who are each 55-54 (so could be ZERO teams with winnings records when they play them)
But they had better make some hay out of that easy slate over the next month.
The Phils have a horrible roster for a full season, but a rather good one (IMO) for post-season (short series', lots of days off)
The back end of their rotation is horrible, and the depth of their bullpen is very bad.
In a short series, neither of those things matter. And what does matter - the top 2-3 in the rotation, and a reliable closer - they definitely have.
Their lineup? It has really been three dangerous guys, and a bunch of scruffers (several of them being OLD scruffers). But the three have been really really good difference makers (Schwarber, Harper and Marsh - though even Marsh is cooling off)
If they make the post season, don't count them out.
But they could very well miss it altogether if they don't get going.
If not for the Mets, they would be this year's poster child for misspent $$$,

Mostly agree. As in years past, it's all about the Phils bats getting hot at the right time - in the playoffs. You can pretty much say that about many of the past WS winners. The Phillies are probably streakier than the average team, so maybe more important for this team.
The remaining schedule makes it very possible to hold on to that playoff spot. I still wouldn't be surprised if they win the division.
Baseball seasons are full of ebbs and flows. Just gotta flow at the right time.
I could see that too - I don't think the Braves are a juggernaut (too lazy to look it up, but I think after their hot start the first two months they are a 500 - maybe even a little under -team)
[EDIT: I had to check. Braves are a 500 team since May 21.
Since June 7th, they day they finished sweeping the Bucs, they are 19-24.
So they are definitely "catchable" based on the way they have played the 2+ months]
But the Phils do have some big holes - they gotta hope their strengths can overcome them, I think.
I will say, that at least the Phils had the foresight to fire a lousy manager, and bring in one who seems to have some fire, balls, and common sense [Though I don't think year's Phils squad is nearly as good, or as deep, as those squads Thomson had in his early years]. Lack of the same in Pittsburgh is keeping the Bucs from being a post-season team this year. Oddly enough, the talent is (finally) there for the Bucs to be - should be - a post season team. But they have got to have the dumbest manager in baseball history. Alas.
