Please get rid of Painter - just get rid of Painter. I do not believe his has the ability to be an MLB pitcher - his head will never allow him to focus.
Come on this is his first year coming off TJ surgery. He has showed much improvement but there are always growing pains with young pitchers. There have been several instances of veteran pitchers getting lit up for 7 or more runs in 2 or 3 innings this year.

Sosa not running out of the box on that 9th inning double cost him a triple. And probably a run that would have tied the game. But hey, it looks cooler to walk out of the box and admire your hit!

I don't know.....but I think opposing batters have him figured out.
Just making sure I have this right. He's been pitching in the big leagues for 5 seasons now. He's had a sub 2.5 ERA in 4 of those seasons and currently his 1.82 ERA is the lowest of his career. But he gave up 2 runs in the span of 3 games and now batters have figured him out?

Sit on the splitter that doesn’t have much downward movement. The triple and double on Sunday and homer he gave up today were all splitters right down broadway. He throws that pitch more than any other. Not sure why when you have a heater that can get up to 102.

At least one of us did.
Touch'e....that great ERA doesn't change the fact he's given away games in his last two outings when the Phillies really needed a win. He's way over hyped, the Phillies need to stop all that BS when he comes into a game too, now its embarrassing.

That great ERA demonstrates that he is effective over large samples sizes. Don't lose the forest from the trees. A 3 game sample size is tiny (you meant 2 of his last 3 outings since he pitched a scoreless inning yesterday). Wheeler recently gave up 4, 2, 4, and 8 in a 4 game stretch where he didn't make it out of the 5th. He followed with 1 run in each of the following 3 games, going 6 or 7 innings.

Harper is usually a sound baseball player. But he made a boneheaded running mistake (what is with all of those of late by the Fightins?) in the top of the 9th. He was on 2nd, with 1 out, and broke on a ground ball that was hit right to the SS. smh

smh. Bowlan comes in to relieve in the 9th inning, with the Fightins up 3-2. He gets a K, then gives up a single. The next guy up (Sean Murphy) hit a grounder up the middle, and then Hill in CF muffed the pickup, allowing the pinch runner to score from 1st, and Murphy to go to 2nd. He then got a fly out and a ground out. So a blown saved opportunity, and we're headed to extra innings, tied 3-3.

Stott's placed on 2nd to start the 10th. Crawford comes in as a PH, and hits the 1st pitch into CF, plating Stott. 4-3, Fightins, and they're still batting.

Edit: that's all they got, though Marsh just missed a 2-run HR as a pinch hitter.

Braves scored 1 in the bottom of the 10th, making 4-4. The Fightins scored 1 in the top of the 11th, but Crawford struck out with bases loaded and 2 outs. So, on to the bottom of the 11th, Shugart pitching for the 2nd inning.

smh. Shugart got the 1st out. Then Mattingly switched pitchers to Raley. He got a pop-out, but then gave up a single and a double.

Final: 6-5, Braves, in the 11th

Another Fine showing by the bullpen.
Phillies may very well not make the playoffs. Terrible fundamentals. No clutch hitting and lousy bullpen.

I guess because he pitched the two previous games. Either that or because he hasn’t exactly pitched well in high pressure situations lately.
Hopefully it’s the first. If it’s the second, if you don’t put your supposed A+ closer in to seal a win against the team you’re trying to catch for the division because he hasn’t pitched well in high pressure situations recently, you’ve got problems.

I would be surprised if it wasn’t the first
