I was wondering if Bliss might go to a small school for football (D2?). He was a joy to watch play. Too slow to play college RB, but he would likely be ok at linebacker.

He does have a former teammate wrestling at Clarion (Neely-285).
IDK?

I know he has visited Navy and UTC for wrestling.

Nico Emili is a kid to watch at 121 for Beca. Ranked 3rd in State. Had some weight issues during season.
He has 6 losses ,5 from out of state studs and one to Spencer, Wyoming Seminary. He beat Lambardo from Malvern. I do understand Sidun is the obvious favorite. Emili is pretty talented.
Agreed. I'll take a closer look at him next week for regionals.

Offhand, I'd expect him to win regionals and state seeds to be 1 Morrison, 2 Gallegos, 3 Emili, 4 Sidun.

As stupid as that sounds with 2 state champs meeting in the semis, that's the PIAA seeding system: straight math in Excel, up to 100 points for this year's W-L percentage, up to 100 points for last year's placement. Sidun missed the postseason with a broken hand, so he gets a 0 in that category. Previous years' results do not count. He'll be the 4 regardless of who wins the other 3 regionals.

I'd hope somebody at PIAA would be an adult in the room, and separate Sidun from Morrison. I crack myself up, "PIAA adult in the room." They've had several opportunities to do the same in the past and never have.

I havent followed him on the wrestling end. Im guessing he isn't getting much for football offers. Or he enjoys wrestling more.

Playing 1A football probably skews how good he actually is. Especially in D9 territory.

Thanks for the analysis, El_Jefe. Any thoughts on D10 AA?
Oops, I missed that!

- 114: S3 SO Chase Karenbauer is very good. He's now 39-0. He'll win regionals and get the 2 seed at Hershey behind Lotier. I'd expect Lotier to win.
- 121: S4 JR Elijah Scriven (21-4) should also make noise at Hershey, especially if he can avoid Wolford.
- 127: S7 JR Logan Stewart, 44-2
- 139: SO Kamdyn Borrero 40-3. Underrated medal contender, lost 1-0 to Music last year.
- 152: Really good district finals, S2 SR Hudson Hohman (38-2, Bucknell) 7-6 over S8 SR Clay Kimmy (41-5, Edinboro). Hohman has a shot to make the state finals against Joe Bachmann.

Also realized I missed D11 AA ... woof.

- 121: FR Arturo Reyes teched the field, now 34-4. Someone to watch at states. Not expecting him to beat Wolford next weekend at SE Regionals, but seems like a decent shot at medaling.
- 127: JR S2 Carter Chunko (Rutger, 37-2) dominated the field. He will likely meet Freddy Bachmann at SE Regional finals and again at state finals.
- 189: SR Luke Fuzagotta (2024 S2) pinned his way thru the bracket, now 28-2.

Those are the biggest returning names, and I'm running on fumes.

Preliminary brackets for regionals are posted, except for SC AAA (conducted) and West AAA:

SC AAA Regionals:

For some reason PIAA continues to allow SC AAA to take off the week before states ... anyway:

- 114: SR Thunder Beard (S4, Utah Valley) teched 3 of 4 opponents. He'll likely be the 2 seed at states behind Wenrich.
- 121: SR SQ Abramm Schaffer (42-6) won. He's not at the level of Sidun or Gallegos or Morrison.
- 127: JR Kavin Muyleart (S2) won, now 34-4. More on his chances at states below ...
- 139: JR Aiden Herndon (S4) 8-1 over SR Isaiah P. Jackson. It only feels as though both have been around forever.
- 145: JR Miles Grossman (S6) is now 27-1. He's not a threat to Vielman or Ballard, but should finish top 5. He's coached by Levi's uncle Chris Haines.
- 172: SR McKaden Speece (Navy) blew up the field. He's 51-1 and #1 in the state. Has made a major jump this year after finishing S4 at 145 last year and getting dominated by both Sement and Turi at Hershey.

=======================

Muyleart's draw is gonna depend on NE and W Regionals. There are 2 returning champs at 127: Nicholas Salamone (NE) and Chase Williams (SE). If both win regionals, then by rule they must be separated in the brackets.

The 4 regional champs will be (all records before regionals except Muyleart):
SE = Williams, S1, 33-4
NE = Salamone, S1, 31-7 OR Albanese, S3, 33-2
W = Sloboda, S3, 39-1 OR Canali, S5, 41-5. Sloboda is the favorite.
SC = Muyleart, S2, 34-4

Williams will get the 1 seed at states as long as he wins SE Regionals (which he will).
Hate to make you do all this work again, but I wouldn’t consider Williams the favorite to win the regional. He’s 1-1 against Coffin, and probably an underdog against Tancini. Maybe 50/50 but at best. He is fortunate to have them both on the other side of the bracket. 127 is not 107.

Leanza is not a sure thing to place in that meat grinder of a weight.

Nothing against him, but holy hell, 2 state champs, a finalist, 2 thirds, and a S5 at least. He is guaranteed to get one of them in the quarters if not sooner. Assuming he gets that far. And he might have to beat another in the blood round.

Just a brutal weight.
He did beat Salamone early this year but it will be a tough row to hoe.

Looking at the SE brackets and common opponents, can definitely see Tancini being favored. Coffin is probably a push, or a slight edge to Williams, but not a clear favorite.

Any non-Williams SE Regional champ would be the 4 seed at states. Last year Tancini was the only other state qualifier, and he DNP. None of them can approach the "prestige points" of the other 3 regional champs.

- 215 SR Aiden Bliss (S3), 36-1 with only 2 regular decisions. He'll win NW Regionals and has a decent shot at the state finals. He's uncommitted, and in past years he'd be a good target for HWT depth ... but not now with Mirasola and Bundy both FR, Brown incoming, and Cael pursuing Hoare and/or Hazelett in 2028 ... only so many HWT spots to go around.
Last I heard (December ‘25) there’s a realistic possibility he may not do any sports in college. Seems kinda far fetched considering his football and wrestling accolades, but he wouldn’t be the first standout athlete to go to college as just a student.

The kid Stewart beat in the district finals should be a name to watch in the future: Kagan Painter from Grove City. 31-6 as a freshman, wrestling on an ACL that is 60% torn. He was dang close to getting the deciding back points in his match against Stewart.

Any relation to Northampton 2x state 2nd Dave Emili?

Does anyone know how similar in size Elijah Brown and Dreshaun Ross are? I know only Ross is at 285, but I am wondering about how much he is currently weighing?

Saw Ross listed at 6-4, 230 for football this past fall. Should generally be skeptical about those listings -- they're often generous in whatever direction benefits the athlete. So maybe he's a little lighter than that, maybe closer to 220, but likely more than 215.

Either way, not pushing 240-250. Basically in the same weight range as Brown, slightly heavier.

Nico is Dave's son . Dave owns/runs a wrestling club outside of Easton in Forks Township. I think it's called The Hunt.
Dave had a great butt drag in highschool. In his last match he lost to Teague Moore in State finals 5-1. I was in attendance sitting near the Northampton crowd.

Looks like the regional brackets broke favorably towards Brown. Provided things go chalk, Hoare will meet Roscosky in the semis and (if he wins) Brown in the finals

I wouldn't call that "broke favorably." The 4 district champs got seeded in order (probably by PIAA seeding criteria). The two D7 finalists (Brown and Roscosky) got separated, which put Roscosky into Hoare's half. SOP for PIAA bracketing. If anything, it broke favorably toward Roscosky and Hoare, in that they will meet in the semis instead of the quarters.

Anyway, Brown's making the final, and probably with 3 first-period pins/techs. His half is weak. The bottom half has a couple of guys who might make Roscosky or Hoare work a little, but any semi other than those 2 guys would be surprising.

Guessing Brown will get Roscosky once again -- he beat Hoare 13-5 in December.

Elijah’s old man, I imagine is Fred, who won a title all the way at 189 in the mid 90s.

West Regionals Sidun is seeded 1 over Gallegos 2. Not sure why if you follow the seed points. Maybe they will do that at states as well. Who knows.

Regions are not bound by the PIAA seeding point system. Each region is free to implement their own system.
I think he's referring to my earlier comment about West Regional seeding at 215, which is a fair criticism.

By whatever method they chose, they got the 215 brackets right within the constraint of the top 4 seeds going to district champs.

How high of a ranking do you think brown gets as a recruit

IIRC Willie had him around 28 earlier in the year.

I wouldn't put a lot into his recruiting rank. He's a very late bloomer and hard to judge relative to the field. Also 2026 is an incredibly deep year.

Today he should be behind Ross, Mocco, Merrill, and Bechtold. All of whom are top 20 in 2026. Where after that is a lot less clear.

Yep, Fred is his dad. He must have a short mom and gotten dad’s wrestling talent. Practicing with kids like Louie Gill, Conner Saylor, Brody Bishop and Brady Slicker growing up couldn’t hurt either haha

Former Nittany Lion and current Grove City Head Coach Wes Phipps named D10 coach of the year.
That's awesome. Phipps was a good guy and I'm sure still is. He's clearly a phenomenal coach. I remember watching him at the fred bell my senior year back in the day and he and that GC team had some cool kids that were fun to catch up with at tournaments. He was maybe the most exciting D10 kid outside of Stephen Ceremuga that year, would've been 2010 I believe. The good ole days now. Very random, but got me remembering d10 things and Grove Coty related, but I also remember watching a grove city kid assault a water fountain and if I remember right, lose his spot to the state tournament or maybe regionals. Robbie Miller I believe his name was. All time crash out.

Nothing like New Wilmington and the Burns brothers when it comes to football though. Those teams were absurd, right up til they met Terrel pryor in the playoffs that is.

Younger one got a state title in 2008, big upset in the finals. Probably the best high school game I ever saw.
