So, our Buccos are .500. Not bad compared to years past. Except they are still 11 games behind Milwaukee in the division. They are 3.5 games out of a wildcard spot currently. As someone else pointed out a few days ago, are they buyers or sellers? MLB network, just a day or two ago, had them as buyers still. I’m not so sure. I really like the lineup this year, but something is missing. Clearly bullpen help is needed, but would that be enough?

None of it matters if the starting pitching doesn't start pitching better--Ashcroft is the only guy meeting or exceeding expectations
I still don't understand why Jared Jones is in the rotation

It’s our own fault for letting this team dupe us into thinking this year would be different.
With due respect, it’s your fault for believing.
Until they ACTUALLY win something, you shall not join the bandwagon

Ashcraft was more deserving. Lowe, Reynolds and O’Hearn are candidates if others drop out.

Lowe now has 21 HR and 63 RBIs. He leads all second basemen in multiple batting categories.

Need to sign Lowe to a new contract.
Absolutely. Plus doing it right now would send a message that not only are they trying to just get better but they’re trying to build a long term winner. I think if he and Ohearn got signed to long-term deals, it would be a big pick up for this playoff drive too

I stumbled across an article about the Dodgers potentially making a move for Lowe at the trade deadline.

Has Lowe earned a shot? No doubt.

But 2B is LOADED in the National League. Listed in order of total ""WAR":

Wetherholt
Turang
Lowe
Edwards
Arraez
Marte
Albies

In a normal year, any of those guys would have an argument.
And any of those guys would probably be on the All Star roster in the American League.

Two big series before the all-star break. Over the last 14 games Atlanta is only 4-10 so maybe the Battlin' Bucs can find a way to take 2 out of 3. The bigger series is obviously the first-place Brewers who are 10-4 in the last 14. Could taking 2 out of 3 from them give Pittsburgh the spark needed to make a run in the second half? It starts just as tough with series vs Cleveland, NYY and the Cubbies.
Does this season seem more competitive and balanced across the majors compared to previous years?

Buccos really need to find a way to take two of three from both. Skenes being back to the Skenes from last year would be huge to start it off.

Do the analysts think Skenes is pressing too hard to get results or have batters already figured out his style of pitching and learned how to be more productive?

Skenes needed 26 pitches to get out of the first--luckily only gave up 1 run with a walk and 2 hits allowed. He has to be injured

I have seen a few things surmising that his mechanics are off. Remember he is just a few months away from dominating the DR in the WBC. Maybe the extra pitching this preseason took a toll?

Watching him tonight I see a few things. Arm slot appears a bit different (lower), not quite getting his arm through to release point as he’s falling a bit to 1b. Could be part of the Velo drop and less movement. I also think teams know he definitely prefers to pitch on the outer half so they crowd the plate a bit more and I do think he’s a bit more’unlucky’ than previous seasons.

Personally I’d like to see him drop the sweeper or slider and just go with one of them.

He doesn’t trust his fastball right now either. Watching him pitch against the Phillies last week, he was throwing more junk than fastballs. The Phillies announcers even noted that in his first 17 (?) pitches of the game, he only threw 4 (?) fastballs. That is not his bread and butter. Something isn’t right.

'The Professional' is now the first Pirate in their history to have at least 10 RBIs in a single game.

That's actually a pretty amazing stat. Think of all of the great Pirates since 1882? Holy chit!

Whiten and Bottomley are biting their nails.

Ryan O”Hearn. As stated, Incredible night at the plate. This has been really fun. 14 hits by the team. Solid pitching and fielding. Cruz comes back after the break, taking BP now.

Braves used a shortstop this past inning on the mound.

Damn it. Why can’t we have nice things? Konnor Griffin is out 8-10 weeks with torn tendon in finger.
