Not saying they were going to hit the jackpot with a different 3rd round pick but picking Allar was just dumb. Kenny Pickett type pick all over again.
You don't see the difference between the two
Hint...look at where they were drafted and upside.

That's your opinion of him and we know you love Allar. By the way, you know the system is not full proof. Allar would do great to have a 10 year back up career. Not the expectations when he was one of the top two or three QBs coming out of HS.

It's the general opinion of him
Allar may amount to nothing...his lack of preparation at Penn State is tough to overcome however that has nothing to do with the discussion.
You want to guess how often a top 3 player at a position coming out of HS doesn't live up to the hype?

Are you sure about this? I mean word from the insiders on this sight and podcasts had him practically living in Lasch. MO is "preparation" was not his problem.

To clarify, by "preparation" I don't mean "Drew didn't work hard/study/prepare" for game. I mean, Franklin and his staff failed to "prepare" him for the NFL as McCarthy has made clear when he said he had to "undo" everything Drew learned here

The general opinion of him is what? What upside? A career backup? He is not a starter and that is why he went to the third round. I contend he very well could be out of the league in 5 years possibly sooner.

The general opinion is he has more upside / talent tha Howard
What do you think 3rd round QBs are projected to be? Even most 2nd rounders aren't sure bets or they'd have gone in the first. He'll probably half of first round picks bust. Every guy is that draft could possibly be out leave in less than 5 years. See our recent busts.

All this seems to be is you don't like Allar and are frustrated we drafted him.

A 3rd pick is definitely worth gambling on a QB with Allar's physical traits. But there were multiple reasons why he lasted until the 3rd. Inaccuracy and mistakes in big moments were the two biggest reasons I believe he fell. If MM feels like there's a decent chance he can develop Allar and having seen other 3rd rounders like Johnson and Wilson do nothing, I have absolutely no problem with Steelers taking a chance on him in the 3rd.

Plain and simple, his mechanics and thought processing break down in tension filled moments. His hurry up offense in the last minute of the Bills preseason game was eerily familiar to the end of the Notre Dame game in the Orange Bowl. He looked to be throwing the ball up hoping someone would make a play rather than executing a plan of attack based on scheme and opportunity. He needs to have the game slow down and he needs more time to adopt better mechanics. Until then he will be back up material.

And wait until he faces starters and not the 3rd and 4th string players. I wish he had started against the bills, at least he would have been against better competition. They clearly have Howard ahead of him.

I don't think anyone thought that Allar would play this year in any scenario
A few teams kept 4 QBs--it might become more typical as developmental QBs are valued

I don't agree with any of this but time will tell. At no point in the preseason game was he "throwing the ball up hoping someone would make a play"
Against Notre Dame, if you think there was a solid, valid plan then I don't know what to tell you.

He's a backup, that's it. If you are happy the Stillers drafted a career backup QB at best then good for you. His leadership alone will limit him from being a starter not to mention his decision making, accuracy, mobility, pocket presence, ability to make clutch plays on and on.

My life doesn't revolve around the Steelers winning/losing. You need to chill out.

I am not a diehard; as in my life revolves around them, Stillers fan but I am a fan so I do like to comment on them. I am simply pointing out they will go nowhere fast if they cash in their chips for Allar as their future at QB.

Didn't see one so apologies if one already exists. What do we think? Won...but offensive line looked awful. Brisker with a nice pick.

Edit: There was one started during the preseason. So I merged your thread into the earlier one.

We're not very good--especially offensively. We basically won because Watt made a freak play that resulted in 6. And Brisker set up the other TD with his pick. Considering we were going against their QB3 that's not great.
