I bet it has fared rough over the years. Back in 76 or 77 me and a buddy riding around drinking one night decided to paint New Bern’s Bear in front of their high school. We painted a big wide pink stripe down its back. Happened to be the week they played Kinston so everyone assumed someone from Kinston did it. That same night while buying the paint we got a large box of tide washing powder and we put that in a fountain that in front of a bank. Had this big water fountain spraying up in the center of it. We dumped the detergent in it and drove off. 30 minutes later we drove back by and the suds was all out in the road. Both incidents was in the news but we never got caught. Good times!!![]()
This statue has been beaten, painted, scuffed, and everything in between , but still sits head held high
The Mighty Golden Lions
LOL Great story.. Those lion statues took a beating.... It was destroyed by a sledgehammer once, and between Shelby kids and Crest kids, it was a yearly battle between paintings etc.... There were times kids would stay on top of their respective schools and such to keep each other from painting the tower at Crest gold or the Lion greenI bet it has fared rough over the years.
