Some decent matches today but nothing great IMO
Sabalenka (who's probably very drunk right now) just had nothing against Osaka--kudos to Osaka because that's the best I've seen her play in years but Sabalenka's too in her head (like Iga).
Coco vs Pegula should be a good one--this is probably Jess's best chance (top seed remaining) so hopefully she can pull it off--she's been great against Americans

Sinner gets my boy Struff (thinking his run is over) then the winner of Novak/FAA

Let's go Fritz, Krueger & Keys tomorrow! A Keys-Pegula final would be awesome

Some words about play at end of Alliasame and Fokina match. I guess Felix Auger didn't appreciate Fokina takina a medical break when Felix was serving and Fokina appeared to aggravate an ankle injury. It led to Felix's first service game of the tournament that he did not hold. He had over 70 serve games held! May not be as fortunate as he faces Djoko next.

Not much has changed. The men's side is still Sinner's to lose.

The women's draw is wide open as expected. A great opportunity for Gauff/Pegula. Too bad they have to play each other.

I love Djoker, but the fact that he mentored Jovic seems a little sus to me.
Maybe but I feel like he's rarely actually on tour and, when he is, his wife and kids are there with him. Jovic also made it sound like they only talk when at a tournament together. He'll send her words of encouragement or she can reach out if needed. Feels like it's more of a "we're both Serbian so I'm trying to be supportive" but you may be right...never know

I know what you are saying, and I agree with most of it. Just wondering what the situation would be like if she was ugly.

I really thought Keys had a chance to reach the final but wasn't close to good enough
Taylor had a big win though and the Lehecka-Zverev match likely will have to finish tomorrow so he has a real decent shot at a final
I think Arthur Fery is still in shock he won today--has to get over that quickly to beat Cobolli
Go Pegula!

IMO this was Pegulas best chance to win a major. She won the first set today against Gauff and had opportunities in the 2nd, but couldn't cash any of them in and lost in 3 sets: 6-4, 3-6, 3-6. Jess has had a really good career considering how late she came onto the scene, but she will not win a major.

I agree it was. I'm happy for Coco but very sad for Jess. I would count her out at the next US Open or Australian but she had a great path here. Coco is the heavy favorite now.

I've always thought that hard courts are her best surface. I wouldn't count her out of the next few Australian and US Opens.

I agree, but that isn't the same as winning a major.
But I’d still give a top 5/10 player a chance of winning a major on their best surface. I’m just saying she’s still playing at a high enough level that the book shouldn’t be closed on her chances of winning one….maybe as soon as September.

Muchova looked very, very good against Osaka (so happy she lost)--going to be a good semi against Coco
Agreed, it should be a good semi. When Muchova played against Coco in the semis of US Open (I believe) she was tentative and wasn't playing her game. She looks much more relaxed this tournament. I put Muchova in the same category as Pegula and Svitolina. Great players that have yet to win a major.

I'm not a big tennis fan, but I like watching the finals of the majors. When I was in London in 2019, I got the chance to try my luck at getting tickets to the Wimbledon finals, F1 at Silverstone, or the Cricket World Cup - all happening that day. I opted for Wimbledon and was lucky enough to score tickets to the grounds. We didn't get to Center Court; instead, we watched the epic Djokovic vs. Federer match from Court 2.

I felt guilty being there in place of some die-hard fans, but in the end, I definitely appreciated the experience.

Here's my write-up of the day.

Novak was a beast today...going to be tough for him to recover to face Sinner but can't ever count him out.

It's early but Coco really struggling. Down 5-1 and a double break. Just had a chance to break back up love-40 then lost 5 straight points. Gotta turn it around quickly

Coco really picked up her game...on serve in the 3rd down 5-4. Had a couple break points in the last game. A tiebreaker really favors Coco right now if we get there

Not a great match but a very good third set. Both struggled late in the tiebreaker with nerves. Coco is going to very angry with herself. She had that won.

Coco chokes again. The only question on the women's side is will anyone actual watch the final?

Sinner dumps Joker. Now plays Zverev who he's dominated in the last few years. But not on grass so maybe it's interesting.

I'll watch the women's final. Noskova has a really good shot at becoming a really, really good player. I want to see how she handles the pressure. Would I rather watch Sabalenka-Rybakina or Pegula=Iga or Coco-Andreeva? yeah, but these are two top 8 players in the world--not the most exciting top 10 matchup but absolutely worth watching

I'm the guy that always wants to see 1 vs 2--Sinner vs Zverev is the best possible matchup. Novak just didn't have anything left after ruining FAA's run and, yeah, Sinner is a huge favorite but it's 1 vs 2--nothing is better.

Yep, I'll be watching the women's final. Noskova is young and upcoming. She was very instrumental in getting the Czech women's team thru to the Billie Jean cup finals this year. Muchova is just an incredible shot maker. Shots behind her back, diving volley, you name it. Like watching a female Roger Federer.

Men's final I'm looking forward to as well. Both are big servers and big forehands. A win by Zverev would confirm his assertion that he's in the same league as Alcaraz.

Noskova reminds me of Capriati during her peak (2000-2003)--just needs to tough up a bit mentally--just look unrattled early then even the noise between games was getting to her when Muchova went on the 5 game run to win the 2nd. Noskova rebounded well--I expect her to win a handful or so majors if she stays healthy. Her game is impressive.

i was going to be happy either way today with the women's final. Both are very solid. I think it is impossible to say if Noskova will win more majors at this point since there is such parity in women's tennis.

That's fair--I think the top women (Sabalenka, Iga and Rybakina) are still clearly the best but, yes, unlike the men, there's another group just behind them which makes it more wide open. All three of them struggle mentally at times unlike Sinner & Carlos.

I'm hopeful Sasha puts up a fight tomorrow
