From SI (link): According to the report from Dellenger, the expectation is that schools will operate under a "projected" cap of $20.5 million next school year. The cap is 22% of Power 4 (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC) revenues from the previous academic year. Additionally, the cap has built in escalators of 4% in years two and three, before being recalculated in year four.
Schools are welcome to distribute the $20.5 million across its sports however they see fit. However, the expectation is that most power conference schools will heavily skew the payouts towards football and basketball players.
This mostly means we shouldn't be losing elite recruits because of money anymore, effective in the Class of 2026.
And if this mostly means we'll finally be competing on an even playing field against Ohio State and a few others, then I am fine starting CJF's *clock* in 2026. By 2029, we should be at full strength.
For the last 20-some years, we've been playing with one hand tied behind our back as Ohio State has assembled the best rosters that money could buy. We were batting .500 vs Michigan until they went all-in on cheating.
Despite the disparity in talent, you could say James Franklin "punched up" and was just a few plays, bounces, players and CALLS away from 4 wins in 5 years vs OSU: 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018. He had us in position to win those games despite the disparity in talent, one of which was a title year for OSU.
I don't think this automatically puts us on-par with recruiting against OSU, UGA, ALA, LSU, Oregon, etc, but this should shrink the gap and bring us closer to even over time. And it lessens one of the variables that's been working against us in some of these big games against the elites.
CJF has done a great job of upgrading our program and resources, and he legitimately should have a few more wins to show for his efforts against Ohio State. We don't need him to be the greatest game-day strategist in the history of CFB to take us to where we want to go, but his clock starts for me in 2026.
