I believe that Iowa will use the portal to supplement freshman recruiting not the other way around. Time will tell.🏀
I think what happened with the 2026 recruits might inform how this goes. They have offered a lot of players with similar skills, so I'm guessing they are looking for leverage. You might see Jensen start to leverage earlier commitments with portal moves. And knowing what we know about Jensen, she is letting these girls know exactly what she is doing. Seems a natural result to pinning hopes and getting burned by lots of "almost."

At least that's my take on the Seubert commitment. Should be in-tER-est-ing to see what happens in the next few months.

Looking at the numbers.

There are 14 players on the roster.

There are 4 seniors to replace taking the number to 10. Have to question whether Johnson will return. Will Rodriguez return?

We have McKenna coming in next year. We will have 9 to 11 on the roster. Jan has plenty of room to add 2 - 3 in the portal and add at least three in 2027.

whynot?

Until we see what Iowa does in the portal I think setting Priorities is difficult.
And who comes back and who does not. I'm not a big portal fan in the past but sort of coming around to the idea of adding one or two where needed. So, I might like to see a 6'1 or 6"2 forward and a good shooting guard, if they are players that Jan would want.

Assuming everyone but Emely returns (easily could lose more) they currently will only have 10 players next year. It is a given they are going to the portal.

Would Jan take both? Both took an unofficial for MSU game. Wilson took an official to TCU several weeks ago. I like Mya's size, saw she's averaging 25 ppg and 10 reb.

First names so I can look them up, or would appreciate where they are from and position and height and if Iowa has offered. TKS!

3 point shooting needed so that All Big Ten Ava and Big Ten freshman of the year MW can have maximum impact.
McKenna isn't going to get the grace period Addie Deal has gotten, unless Jan finds someone Hannah's size and build in the portal (tough to find). Hannah's rebounding has been great, and Journey will get some more run too most likely, she's built right just a couple inches too short to be super effective in the paint.

So McKenna needs to hit the ground running. She can likely replace Hannah's scoring most nights, but she won't match up rebounding and defensively in the early going compared to current Hannah. If she does, we're in great shape.

Seems right, but give her 2 years in the weight room and combine that with her shooting and, look out.

Speiser has shot equal to Kylie/Deal from 3 this year.. more free reign less stress on a bad team.

Not saying do or don’t go after her.. but she hasn’t had some amazing shooting season. Sophomore bump could bring her up..

Stremlow had a huge % bump this year

I don't think so. She has had a health setback the last two years. She does have a very good three point shot. Could add a different dimension to the team next year.
I agree. I don't feel confident that she will transfer after hearing her say that everybody has a role on this team. So she doesn't sound like she's not happy here.

Also, it's not like she was hitting all her shots and she was benched for some unknown reason. She has struggled. Maybe , because of health issues, but its hard to say she has been mistreated. With some luck she gets healthy next year and can be a productive contributor. I would speculate that she sees herself getting a fair shot next year with a staff that has been patient and supportive.

In the keep your fingers crossed category, Sounds like Iowa may indeed be getting a visit from Kaleena Smith. David Eickholt was on washed up walk ons podcast. 1st segment is WBB with talk of visit starting at approximately 13 minute mark.

Interesting, if true. I'd guess Iowa might be flashing their wallet.

I hope she stays. I still think she can be a very good player. She's just had some bad breaks. I thought she looked good against Wisconsin and once she hits a few it'll make a big difference

I don't believe Eickholt's track record is all that good. He said Guyton was going to get a chorus of boo's for the Illinois game which wasn't remotely accurate.

What does thinking someone is going to get booed have to do with hearing someone may visit?
It's a microcosm of things he has predicted in previous podcasts/interviews. He is by no means an "insider". Now if Smith does actually visit Iowa then I will gladly retract and give him props!

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated.
Note: it is Altenburg, my mistake.
Iowa WBB offers the best fan support in the country. We are becoming a blue blood on the recruiting front
If I was ranking a recruits check list for selecting a school, this would be my top to bottom reasons.

- Schools tradition for winning and the coach (Top programs get considered first)

- $$$$ (Becoming a bigger issue in the womens game)

- Location (Many players like to be close enough that family can watch them play)

- Culture (Team unity and a family culture is attractive to some players

- Fan support (Carver is impressive but look how many arenas are 1/2 full and are ranked top 10.

The data agrees with this method. As I've stated before, you "only" need 1 mcdonalds all-american per recruiting class to have a championship caliber roster. Hitting on recruits #30-65 to fill out the recruiting pipeline with this coaching staff's ability to develop is sufficient to build a perennial final 4 caliber program.

I think the only thing missing on this team is another ball handler who can create off the dribble and take pull up jumpers. Saw a glimpse of that with Rodriguez.

Speiser has gone off in 2 of K States 3 big 12 tournament games. They are in the semifinals now.
