Penn State wrestling will start its 2025-2026 season this Friday night against Oklahoma. Here's what the lineup could look like.
2028 could be a really interesting year in the team race. Early odds on ORS by wrestler, at least for us?
Luke, Blaze, Kasak, Duke, James, Henckel, Barr, Mirasolas, … who else already qualified?

How would Davis have one ? He wasn't top 3 at NCAAs and I don't remember him winning a world medal.
Ono, if he gets another year of eligibility.
Some bizarre angles in USA Wrestling rules for Olympic shirts come into play:
1. The criteria do not specify an American or Team USA wrestler.
2. Ono does not qualify as Senior World Champ, because a senior medal is not a listed criterion.
3. He does qualify as a U20 World Champ.
2024 Olympic Shirt criteria:
Where I was going with the 2028 discussion is whether the team with the best roster could finish behind one or more teams because of a large number of ORS. Guys at 125, 141/9, 165, and possibly 184/197 may be close enough to their Olympic weights where they could wrestle at NCAAs and not be off their optimum for the games. Others trying to go up/down from their NCAA weights might be more likely to forgo NCAA altogether (?).

It won't matter Ono only has 1 year. I thought it was only for USAW athletes but that might not be true. I haven't read the procedure that closely. Amine definitely got one so it must be allowed
Should be a historically great team race. Think PSU pushes for another team title, so I don’t expect a ton of redshirts, though it’s certainly possible. Here’s how I’d view 2028.
125- Sidun/Lilledahl
133- Lilledahl/Sidun/Burnett?
141- Blaze
149- Davis
157- Kasak
165- Duke
174- James
184- Welsh
197- Mirasola
285- Barr (97Kg prep)
Leaves Henckel and Cole taking an ORS. Henckel can fill out to 184/86kg during this time.
I am open to on paper to Oky State having a team within striking distance of making Nationals interesting in 2028. They will definitely have more than just a handful of finalist caliber kids on their squad and a couple more years to fill the gaps.
Especially if Bassett and Miller get antsy and jump in the portal by then ;-) ;-/

Didn't Micic get 2? One at Northwestern (still repping USA) and one at Michigan (repping Serbia). Gotta be on the short list of wrestlers to take 2 Oly shirts in their career.
Will be interesting with the HS senior class now they all have the ability to be in college 7 years with a regular RS and 2 ORS available while in college
