Zero NCAA tournament wins in the last five years (and only one ever!) ... at least Pastner's done more than that.

In a damn heartbeat I'd take it. Also, worth is defined by how someone or something values your services. So, if the Universities thinks these coaches are worth it, then they're being paid what they truly are worth.

I know there is a lot of hatred for roy and UNC* at the moment, but how can you list him in this category. Yes he's not the best X's and O's coach, but he's been to multiple final fours and has 2 rings...for only 1.8 million a year. I would say he is underpaid. Especially considering that steve alford makes almost double and that Ford, Barnes, Drew, Gottfried and Pastner all make more than he does....he's way underpaid.

Memphis is an absolute joke. Josh Pastner should give back 2/3rds of his contract. The guy is terrible. The entire memphis program is a laughing stock. You don't offer guys like pastner that kind of money. It sets a standard where mediocre coaches are going to do the same thing he did from here on out. Claim other schools wants you, and make them pony up. Idiots. Now they can't get rid of him due to an insane buyout. Couldn't happen to a better bunch of jealous morons.

The most overpaid on that list is

1. Alford
2. Pastner

And no Thad Matta has final fours, elite eights, sweet 16's and conference titles. How is he overpaid? Matta is one of the best in the business. Some of you have no clue what you're talking about. He's made Ohio state what they are prior to his arrival they were hot garbage.

so Coach K is "relatively" worth it, even so he makes 4.1 million more than coach cal.
Roy williams is worth it. Not sure how making 1.8 million and he is overpaid.

^^^Thank you. You are paid what your value to an institution or corporation is. That is the beauty of the free market. This culture values sports and entertainment to a fault, some would say. That really displays itself in salary discrepancies.

Guarantee you that Roy Boy is making a heck of a lot more than the amount shown above. UNCheat is the dirtiest program in the country and is probably funneling money to him someway, somehow. The university probably has a slush fund and launders student funds into an offshore account. They's some low down dirty dogs.
Pastner should be making an equivalent amount to what Upward basketball coaches make. What a screw job he is giving Memphis.

Really interesting that Calipari's base salary is only $400K, and the rest comes from Media/Endorsements, etc.
Makes you wonder how accurate the salaries are for other coaches (like Williams)...

Pretty sure Tom Crean is in the Top 10, around $3 mil. So not sure where these #'s come from. If I'm right, then add Clappy to the Alford/Pastner club.

When I go to a high school game or to the mall, or to the grocery store, Wal Mart etc. it makes me think that Cal is worth it. UK apparel is every where. In coach Smith's last couple of years and during BCG'S fiasco I didn't see that much. I think that UK must be making a lot in licensing fees.

My biggest concern is whose wallet does this money come to originate. Some of those schools are just giving money away.

These top programs are businesses that generate incredible amounts of money. Who deserves more of it than the head coach? If they deserve less, who deserves more? The University?

If anyone other than the coach is most responsible for the amount of money generated and the product on the court, then how do you make sense of the difference between Gillispie and Calipari? Even Tubby and Cal.

I'm of the opinion that the very top coaches are a bargain when it comes to a ROI perspective.

If you average Coach Cal's Salary through the next 7 years (2020-2021) season he averages almost $8,000,000 per season. His extension for 7 years was at 53,000,000. That is when Cleveland Cavs had offered Cal 8 years for 60,000,000 to be Head Coach and full control of team. He also has over these 7 years $16,300,000 in retentions to keep Coach Cal here at UK. This salary has pretty much maxed Coach Cal from an NBA team offering him a better contract. Most Coaches in the NBA including Doc Rivers at Clippers which is 7,000,000 is at the top for NBA Head Coaches Salary. Gregg Popovich of the Spurs makes 6,000,000 a season. Steve Kerr at Golden State & Derek Fisher at the Knicks both make 5 million a year. So, right now Coach K(Approx 9,000,000) and Coach Cal(approx avg. 8,000,000) make more than all the NBA Head Coaches currently. The average Starting Salary for NBA Coaches is around 4,000,000 per season. That is why I think Coach Cal is here longer than most of the experts that are saying with him leaving for the NBA.
