I assume/hope this is a legally binding contract between the two (don't have time to read about it now). If so UW needs to prevail to start to restore some order. Disappointing that this stuff has to play out in court to get there. I'm more and more convinced that the sport needs a commissioner to draw up some rules and reign **** in.. A salary cap may be a good idea amongst many others.

I know you hate the idea, but Saban would instantly bring credibility to the commish role (if he would do it). Need someone that is going to be taken seriously.

First of all, the absolute cream of the top of any P4 roster are going to be legit D1 Players (Take a look at the best players Cignetti brought with him from JMU - and JMU was only an elite FCS program when Cignetti initially recruited many of them, not a G5 FBS team, let alone a P4 team). Claiming that none of ISU's players can compete in the mighty b1g homer conference is laughable bs nonsense as evidenced by the fact they beat Iowa in each of the last 2 years. ISU also beat a very good 10-2 Miami team in their bowl game (elected not to go to a bowl game this year).
We shall see and hope you are right but beating Iowa is not like beating OSU, Michigan, Oregon and Indiana.

Saban was a cheat so yeah, not a fan of handing him the keys to write rules for CFB.

Here's the problem though...if it ends up in court I'm guessing Washington loses as he's not an employee and can't be bound to stay enrolled in a college. This could make it far worse because this could open the gates even more. The NCAA could easily be prohibited from having any periods where the portal isn't open.

It won’t be to keep him at UW; it’ll be for damages resulting from the breaking of his contract (which gives his NIL rights to UW). Yes you can transfer - but you have to pay for the damage caused.

Unless my eyes deceived me, the team attitude, enthusiasm and play got better when Smith took over as head coach. I attribute that to his leadership, not player leadership. If the team had good player leadership and head coach leadership, the absolute collapse after Oregon wouldn't have happened. Although I am not behind the closed doors, the people who were behind the closed doors paid a lot of money to make sure Smith and his leadership remained at PSU.
They didnt even look like the same team after Smith took over. They didnt look right before Oregon, let alone the 2 games after. Under Smith they were energized and played physical football. Smith was key in holding this team together and rallying for the remainder of the season.

I wonder if part of some of these last day or so are not necessarily current guys being worried about the new guys coming in, but finding out what they think their $ value should be, is more than what new staff is willing to offer them. Pretty sure the one “disrespect” comment was based on NIL they would get if they stayed here.

It is what it is. I trust Campbell. He did not come here to suck.

Good story--I think a lot of people are underestimating the talent we've added

Why Matt Campbell's portal influx of Iowa State players is great news for Penn State - CBS Sports
This is exactly the argument many of us have been making in response to the short-sighted “ISU East” moaning that gets repeated over and over by the usual suspects. These are largely guys that have proved they can actually play the game - not just look good in shorts and compression shirts at 7 on 7 camps.

One thing I am noticing: If they are coming here, they don't leave here until they sign. We obviously won't get everybody we want but I absolutely love this fact about this staff.

technically, what you're stating as fact would be illegal. By NCAA rule, you can not sign with a team while on their campus, or on a visit to them.

One of the bigger surprises to me in the portal -- how many players are announcing/signing with Wisconsin. Even before the portal entered, and continuing through the early days, there were a slew of players on the Wisky team that were entering the portal. And yet, over the past week, a large number of players have announced they were joining Wisky. I really haven't paid attention to how highly these players were ranked -- just an overall surprise and observation.

Less of a surprise to me is the number of players that are announcing/signing with LSU. Kiffin seems to be pretty active in the portal.

I know PSU was in the running. As Hank Fraley played OL for the Philadelphia Eagles, I was hoping his son would transfer to PSU. Alas, he's headed to MSU.

Might be related, might not be - but when the Wisky AD gave Fickel his vote of confidence at the end of the season, he also announced new investment into the football program...

It's these losses that bother me the most—the young kids who presumably have high upsides and a lot of eligibility left.

Yeah, PSU has lost a lot of guys that were a year or two away from being ready to play.

Outten was always a work in progress. He verballed to VT, but CJF flipped him to PSU before signing day.

He was always someone that was long-term prospect, in that he didn't enter college with refined WR skills.

You’re kidding right?

Under Franklin Penn State’s WR room was one of the worst in the B1G and the country.

The fact that Franklin recruited so many project type players at a WR skill position should be alarming in a bad way.

Thank goodness Coach Campbell is clearing out the projects while keeping the few promising WRs on the current roster.

Best wishes to Matt Outten. I think he may have to drop down a level in competition. He was overmatched in the B1G.

We could say the same about Conner and the lb room. We have more wrs in the NFL than actual LBs.

Ps. The wr room has more players in the NFL than ISU. That is not even counting kls and Harrison who led sec teams in receiving.

Went 8-4 in a lesser conference.
