On 3 pre-season polls has us at 14th. Yes, it is preseason, but CMC has done a great job salvaging and rebuilding the roster.
How Matt Campbell's Iowa State transfer pipeline saved Penn State
He has. How well the team performs will all depend on how the pieces fit together, how well the OL gels and what production the DL generates. Hopefully, they can get a pash rush with the line and not have to resort to blitzes for pressure. I have significantly less concern with the offense as this is Campbell's thing and he has pieces he is familiar with. Defense is the question mark for me

Defense will be significantly better in my opinion as long as there isn’t injuries.

He got big DTs which will help eat up OLinemen. Hopefully at least one of our DTs is good enough to command a double team. That should help the LBs run free to make plays. It seemed the opposing OL was able to get to the second level too much with the light DTs.

We could use some additional DEs and LBs. Hopefully some are in the works and there is money left to sign them.

The defense and how good they are this year will depend on the young DE who return.

Granville was looking like a stud before his injury, Kemajou was getting better each week with more reps, and McPherson from Colorado look to be three very good ones with guys like Robinson as depth. It would also not surprise me to see Rojas blitzing more with a better group of MLB types on the roster compared to last season

Saban on the star system- go with your own evaluation and culture fit.

He’s at least partially right, that’s why anybody who knows what’s going on would notice that three star kids who would get an offer from Alabama or Georgia would immediately get bumped up 100 spots to get a fourth star and four star guys who for whatever reason didn’t get those offers, suddenly move down the rankings.

Yes, but Bama, OSU, and UGa were getting more 5 star kids than everyone else when he was still coaching and it wasn’t even close. I like Nick. I think he is a smart guy and a great coach, but for him to say he didn’t see the stars is somewhat disingenuous. He recruited for talent, sure. It’s just the four and five star kids happened to have the most talent.

He did not seem to miss on 4 or 5 star guys.

I call ********.
It just took becoming part of the media for Saban to be totally full of Sh*t. The stunt he pulled with James about how terrible it was for them to fire such a successful coach was really something....everyone knows if Sabans teams had the history of PSU under Franklin the OC/DC would be fired every year. Now he's all of a sudden not really into 5 star guys, all development.....oh and he hates NIL, had to get out of football because of it, you know, after paying players for YEARS.

Agreed. Saint Nick got out of the game when he no longer has the stacked deck.

Nope. He walked away when paying players trumped everything else which meant he was no longer able to stockpile talent.
I know he was lobbying congress to pass legislation regarding NIL before he retired. When there was action taken he stepped away. Perhaps just coincidence.

For guys who have jumped into the portal, do they have an unlimited time to sign with another school or is there a "sign by" date?

Probably transferring to Thug U.

Huh? I think this is Fernando's younger brother. Just because he shares the same last name doesn't mean he's as good. He's probably being forced into the X-fer Portal (i.e., Cignetti doesn't want to keep him) than via his own choice. Hell, for all we know, it was part of Fernando's contract that his younger brother be given a paid roster position.... and now that Fernando is gone, it's bye-bye Alberto.

Have to agree with Lando about Saban being in his 70s and not being able to have his teams perform as they did prior.

Yes, that is an opinion, but it is also fact that none of Bryant (passed away before 70), Paterno, or Bowden could produce a season that ended in a MNC once they reached that milestone age. Bowden did win a singular game against VT to be awarded the MNC shortly after turning 70, but failed the next year as clear cut favorite.
