Penn State's Rocco Welsh beat Lehigh's Rylan Rogers by decision, 8-3, in an 86-kilogram semifinal at U23 Nationals. He's a win away from the title. He faces Maryland All-American Jaxon Smith in the finals.

Timing wise, Rocco Welsh's next match is bout # 6826. It's not yet posted on the Bout Board. That said, 6823 is currently taking place on Mat 3, and 6824 is in the hole for the same mat. So, it could take place in the next 20 or so minutes (give or take).

One follow-up from Saturday: Had the chance to watch the M Bros warm up before Sat night. Casey was the main supervisor. Lots of play wrestling.......maybe 10 minutes. Casey walks up, they get water, then what appeared to be a minute of each working on TD, foot work etc at hyper speed. Looked like running backs doing jump cut drills......the length of the field. Boom, then on to something else. Then another go.

Casey had a very scripted warmup, they knew exactly what to do and CC was in charge of the transitions. I know next to nothing about training for wrestling so it was really fun for me to see some of these details.

I've been to warmups at PSU matches where there is some easy work going on. Then they clear folks out and I suspect only friends of the program can see the details. Obviously the other teams are working out too.

We all see and are amazed at the results. I like learning about the process.

News it not so good for Jayden James, as he falls in the 2nd match at 74 Kg., 15-2, TF @ 4:34, to Ladarion Lockett. He finishes 2nd.

FWIW, Lockett was a huge challenge for James, who is just finishing his junior year in HS

Wrestling up weight too, i think everybody only seen positives in that match.

Since I'm a newbie I'm just gonna post my most recent take away: Jayden James is an absolute stud and when you account for his age and room to grow physically and technically I think he has a solid argument for being the true #1 in the class of 2026.

I believe he is even slightly young for his grade. Like a kid that turns 18 just after graduation or something like that. In other sports the recruiting experts always see that and give a boost because they have more natural room for growth. Idk when his birthday is but I know he is at least nearly two years younger than Bo basset.

JJ was definitely undersized and behind in the strength category, which is to be expected since he is our 70 kg U17 rep this year.

And according to Willie he is still just 16. Super young for his class. Pretty sure Lockett is almost 19 if not already
