I’m shocked how good Giardli looked this tournament. Last year he took 18th I believe and he was 5th at U20 euros this year where he was teched by Otinashvili. He reversed that result and gave Duke all he could handle. He was incredible all tournament from par tarre turning everyone with his gut wrench. Incredible tournament. This is why I love this tournament so much. Guys coming out of nowhere and making a name for themselves. Indias 57kg (Malik) is another. He was down 10-1 to Rin Sakamoto and stormed back to win 10-10. He has a Mesenbrink like gas tank and just keeps coming. Super impressive
They didn't have a thread for U17 either. Kinda' sad actually. It's not like the U.S. wrestlers are wearing their college uniforms. They are all representing the United States and deserve all of us wrestling fans' support.

I thought about starting a thread for them with a stated goal of discussing their u20 representatives but figured it would get me banned for blatant trolling.
It's also ironic that the same fanbase that freaked out over Burroughs not getting support in state college doesn't take the time to follow non Iowa u20/u17 wrestlers
They now have a U20 thread. Talks about how the men’s freestyle action is well underway but Iowa related interests don’t start until later this week (women and Greco). It’s very sad. Worse than having no thread in a lot of ways. I cannot understand how they don’t see the importance of a robust freestyle program to all these top recruits. When Burroughs starts coaching and sets up another RTC, they will fall even further behind. Not an Iowa fan but for the benefit of wrestling they need to do something before it’s too late.

Based upon your earlier write-ups and predictions for 61kg and 86kg team USA looks to be in pretty good shape to win the team title. Then again, based on your prediction at 74kg I am not so sure how much credence I should give your prognostications. JK!
He is such a well-grounded, polite and well-spoken young man, and as a Penn State fan I am thrilled to watch him as his college career unfolds. He did mention how it was a grind to compete in multiple tournaments from U20 through Final X, specifically mentioning the weight cut. Considering 70kg is only three pounds less than 157, it will be interesting to see if or when he bumps up to 165 during his college career. Here's me waiting to see him compete in a Penn State uniform:

I feel good about my Blaze prediction. Max I’m more iffy on. He has 2 tough first matches and then Iran. I love it. Somebody is winning, somebody is losing.
Impressive and brutal, nonetheless, one more reason why I think freestyle should have a 6 point maximum to any one sequence short of a pin.

At 86 kg if both the Israeli and Iranian wrestlers win their next match they will be due to meet each other. If that happens will Iran forfeit? Something to keep an eye on.
