Jayden James named to Team USA.

I hear kal-el’s dad Jor-el was pretty bad ***. Looked a lot like the late Charlie rich as he got older.

edit: For the love of god and all that’s holy, please tell me that his pa opponent’s name is “Lex”

Best guess at Team PA (before Regionals Weekend):
121 - Sam Wolford, Northern Lebanon (Navy)
127 - Dom Deputy, Chestnut Ridge (NC State)
133 - Keanu Dillard, Beca (Lehigh) or Willmont Kai, Whitehall (Nebraska)
139 - Camden Baum, Bishop McDevitt (Purdue)
Two spots at 139 -- guessing Bo Bassett will cut for the 2nd spot. with the Dapper Dan weight allowance. He's at 145 for the postseason.

145 - Brandt Harer, Montgomery (Rutger)
152 - Cade Campbell, Nazareth (Navy) or Ian Longenberger, Boiling Springs (Kutztown) or Hudson Hohman, Grove City (Bucknell)
Hohman definitely gets it if he beats Joe Bachmann. If not ... he would be a 2x finalist losing to Bassett and Bachmann, but they'll likely still pick the AAA winner.

160 - Reagan Milheim, Warrior Run (American)
He'll likely finish 2nd to Melvin Miller. But there are no compelling AAA wrestlers. And Milheim would be a 1x champ/4x finalist.

172 - McKaden Speece, Wilson West Lawn (Navy)
189 - Adam Waters, FCA (anOSU)
215 - Elijah Brown, Belle Vernon (Penn State)
285 - Dean Bechtold, Owen J Roberts (Lehigh)

I am really looking forward to Jayden's Penn State career. I think he could be very special. Given he is only 17, I am wondering if he will Redshirt his first year? I guess part of that will be based on what weight he is projected at.
I am incredibly bullish on him as well, especially because he doesn't turn 18 until the end of june. Kid is scratching the surface still, and actually a kid still.

We'll see how big James get. Nobody thinks he'll see 165 in college. But hard to tell how big just by genetics, too many examples where size poorly correlated: Marcus vs Joey Blaze, Sammy vs Sonny Sasso, etc. OTOH, Landon vs Dave Sidun seems to be a pretty close comparison. And while Levi is much smaller than his dad Ken was, he's about the same size as his uncle Chris was.

James' brother and dad are thick, but average height. Who knows how tall he'll be, but he's a definite mesomorph; you would think 174-184, but 197 isn't completely out of the question.

For another genetic anecdote, my birth father was 5'8" and my mom 5'6". I was taller than my birth father by 10yrs old and topped out at 6'1" at 12. I was several inches taller than both of my brothers at age 18, they kept growing into their early 20's and are both now 6'3". My in-laws are like 5'8" and 5'4", their sons are 6'5" and 6'6" (and 350-400lbs), my sister in-law is 6' (and easily 250+), my wife is 5'9" ~130.

How tall was the milkman? I kid, I kid. Most of my family are smaller people, my dad was 5'9"ish, I'm 5'8" and my sons are 5'8"ish and 5'9". My wife is 5'5", so we're all about what you'd expect. My dad, myself and my sons are/were all solidly built and relatively muscular even without working out (my sons both work out a lot and I did as a younger man). I'd say that we all would have been 141-165 types at college age (one of my sons did wrestle in college at 149/157 and the other was constantly pestered by his university's wrestling coach and wrestlers to do so. His roommate was a wrestler and the cousin to a really good/highly rated D1 kid who I don't think ever became a national champ, but who was an All American. My son would wrestle the guys in the room at times and he more than held his own, but it was just a D2 program). My sons are older now (30 and 27) and they're now about 150 and 180 respectively and both are in good condition, so there is at least some size disparity between them.

You just never know. Look at Cael & Cody. As seniors in college they wrestled at 197 & 133.

My older brother was probably 5'10 145lbs when he left for the army. My younger brother was like 5'9" 135lbs when he graduated high school. I was 6'1" ~230 (and got up to ~250 in college). They wrestled and played soccer, I played football. Today they're both 6'3" 300+ and I'm 6'1" ~185. It doesn't end there, we don't even look like we're the same race, let alone siblings. My mom is half white and therefore we have varying degrees of Caucasian traits in our outward appearance. We've done the genetics testing, we have the same parents.

Growing up people used to ask my wife why her twin brother was so dumb. They looked exactly alike and were the same size (until she hit high school). He's actually 4yrs younger, hence the difference in cognitive progression. He's now 6'6" >400lbs, still there is no denying that they are siblings.

Some guys are done growing in their - early - teens (me), while others keep going. There are a few guys where it is hard to predict. I think Blaze still has some growing left to do; he's long and with broad shoulders. I wouldn't be shocked to see him end his college career as big as 157. James will likely get bigger, but it's anybody's guess as to how much.

This reminded me off a kid in 7th or 8th grade who moved from Florida to my town in California. He was thick and strong like a grown man, an intimidating physical presence. Even had to shave. He used to regale us with stories of working on an alligator farm back in Florida and we believed him.

I moved out of state and had a completely random encounter with him about 6 years later. I had grown to 5’11” and filled out pretty well. But he looked like he hadn’t grown even a millimeter taller or thicker than he was back in 7th/8th grade. I barely recognized him. He went from looking like a complete unit in middle school to looking like Danny DeVito as an adult.

@El_Jefe -- any updated predictions. I think the PA squad usually is announced the week after PA States. Any of your earlier predictions that you would change?

Lightweights are a mess.

121 is gonna take some gymnastics. Top 2 SR placers are Santamaria (AA 4th) and Wolford (AA 5th). If I'm the organizer, I'm asking Deputy (127 AA S3, prior S1/3x finalist) if he can make the 121 weight allowance.

127 - Deputy. But if I'm the organizer, I'm asking Dillard or Kai if they can drop. I don't think they'll ask Detar (AA S1) to drop here if Deputy can't go 121.

133 - Dillard unless he goes 127, then Kai. Detar would also be a good candidate, though I suspect they'll favor the AAA guys. Also don't see any of them bumping up to the 2nd 139 spot.

139 - sticking with my original prediction, Baum and Bassett. The organizers didn't create a 2nd matchup at this weight to make room for Detar or Wenner.

145 - Harer unless he's told to make room for Bassett. (IMO he's less likely to cut to 139.)
152 - Hohman (AA S2). Highest SR placer, 2x finalist (losses to Bassett and Bachmann).
160 - Milheim (AA S2). Highest SR placer. Also a former champ and 4x finalist. And was very competitive with Miller this weekend.
172 - Speece
189 - Waters
215 - Brown
285 - Bechtold

Couple notes:
Oklahoma is set to take on the WPIAL and I do not believe their team has been released yet

If memory serves me right, there was somoene in the middle weights that came out with a Penn State wrestling shirt on. However, it was not announced he was going to Penn State. I want to say it was Will Detar but I could be wrong. Does anyone else remember this and who it was? I tried to go back and watch the video but they don't show the entrances only them wrestling.

I didn't see this but not disputing.

Could you add some context? I'm not sure what "came out" means -- during the parade of champions?

I'm unaware of PSU recruiting anybody on the PA team except for Brown (and maybe dipping a toe in the water with Wentzel with his cousin on the team).

The Harer brothers did wear PSU gear until they figured out Conner would have to go elsewhere. But that was several years ago, so probably not what you saw.

Not during the parade of champions as I believe it is a rule you must be in "school issued" gear. When the wrestlers were announced, they were lined up in the tunnel closest to the entrance of the center (opposite side of the scorer's tables, and opposite end of the podium). They showed each wrestler in the tunnel before and during their walk to their respective mat. When he first came on the big screen he was standing in the tunnel looking up at the screen. It appeared to me, he turned towards the camera almost to show off his shirt. The fella in front of me turned to the guy beside him and said "I didn't know he was going to Penn State" to which was replied with "I guess so."

Now, he could have just been wearing the shirt, but all (depending on this situation) of the guys and girls I seen wearing college gear were committed to that school.

I'm still young enough to remember that someone was wearing a Penn State Wrestling shirt, but apparently old enough not to remember who it was.

Purely a guess, but AAA 160 champ Gavin Ciampoli is from Altoona. (He's also uncommitted.) Might be just a matter of his proximity to PSU and going to PSU matches.

I was there and it was Will Detar of Trinity. I even commented to my buddy about not being aware they were recruiting him.
