It makes me so happy to say that since I have started on this board, Palatine has finally beat a DSR team haha

Again, no adjustments and can't finish. Great season kids. Coaches lost this game. They know it also. See ya next year

Total gagfest by the Crusaders. No excuses leading 17-0 with a minute left in the 3rd quarter. Absolutely blew it.

How 'bout them Pirates !!! They made the adjustments and took #4 out of the game. And finally started protecting Oles and giving him time to throw !!! Next up, Loyola! (Yikes, but for tonight I'm full of adrenaline and say "bring em on"

Not from those of us who are familiar with Badke's inability to finish in big games. Congratulations to Palatine.

I love Palatine with all my heart, but if Palatine beats LA, that would be one of the biggest upsets in IHSA football in years IMO.

Oh yeah. legitimately I think next week is the end of the road....but it's been one hell of a ride; and next year was supposed to be THE year, so who knows what the 2016 season will hold. Dare to dream....

Badke seems more content with beating MC then figuring out how to win in the playoffs. smalling saved their *** last week. Miller is a nice QB but last week and this, two late 4Q ints.

I couldnt agree more. Lenti separated himself a long time ago from the pack. He knows how to prep his team's for that playoff run as does Holecek. LA doesn't have to contend with as many schools for the talent. Badke has dipped into another talent pool in the south suburbs. For decades, Rice's roster was made up of the traditional Catholic feeder schools. As parishes close and suburban families take advantage of the Sandburg's etc, the wheel needed to be reinvented at 99th and Pulaski. Talent is there for next couple years. Question is, will Badke turn the corner. I'd like to think so but only time will tell.

Miller had a great game. He was 33-of-44, so don't be blaming him. He threw just 1 int in the 4th quarter and McHugh made a super play on it.

Bottom line was that Palatine wore Brother Rice down in the 4th quarter. Give the Pirates the credit they richly deserve. They just wanted it more.

Rice scheme is great because you are never out of a game because they can put points up so fast. Especially with the weapons they have on offense. The problem is they do not play with a lead very well beca use they don't run the ball very well when they need to. Also badke calls way to risky of a game. Last week they did a fake punt that they didn't convert and I also belive they called a fake field goal. I seen they play and seen nothing wrong with the snap. Like the previous poster said smalling bailed badke out last week.

I'm an MSL guy by trade, and I've never felt like the conference was very good, but Brother Rice looked very average up front with a couple of dynamite athletes at the skill positions. Smallings is easily the best WR I've seen this year. The BR OL was small with the exception of a couple of guys and the DL were all about 5'10 200, and were able to pressure Palatine initially, until they figured a few things out. It's hard to believe but Palatine's OL wore down Brother rice's defense and throughout the 4th quarter Palatine completely dominated the LOS. Palatine has a very good QB, a very athletic receiving corps, a rb who has picked up his game immensely, and an OL who seeming get stronger throughout the game. Loyola is definitely the favorite for next week but don't count out the Pirates just yet.

Rice recovers with a TD in the 4th after the Palatine surge to go up 24-14 with 8 minutes left. It's as much coaching as anything now. You got Smalling and Blain to play pitch and catch with and you can't finish the game and stay on the field. C'mon man!!!

Agree on throwing the ball but why weren't they able to stop Palatine? Palatine did whatever they wanted in the 4th.

Well written game article. I'm not asking BR to score again but after another 3 and out with the score 24-21 and now 6 minutes left it was killer. How many 3 and outs did BR have in the second half? You wonder why the defense was tired.

Lamm had 4 TD's last week and Rice's defense is backing off him after keeping him quiet for 3 quarters? Make the others beat you.

They did try to double cover lamm and let the others beat them. He broke two tackles on his long TD reception.
Early 4th quarter Palatine threw 2 straight posts to their slot receiver, #22 when they were playing Lamm tight with a safety over the top. It was a chess match that Palatine won

Thanks. I was shocked to see them backing off off of Lamm. I knew right away where the ball was going.

But Palatine has a quantity of really good receivers. Stricker (#22) was open alot and Oles was able to find him.

BR had 2 3 and outs and an interception in the 4th quarter. All in the final 6 minutes.

The ultimate chess match started with 6 min left in the game and BR up 24-21. Plenty of Queens to go around for Rice and the brain trust pooped the bed.

LA doesn't have to contend with as many schools.
Don't kid yourself. Beyond having to compete with Pats, ND, Gordon, Fenwick, Guerin, and Ignatius for north side city kids, Loyola also competes with New Trier, Stevenson, MS, the Glenbrooks, Evanston, Viator, Carmel, ND, Deerfield, etc for north and NW suburban kids. I daresay that Loyola faces tougher competition for students than Rice.

There are far more kids attending Catholic high schools on the North side than south and southwest sides as a whole. From Rogers Park to Edison Park from Howard south to Fullerton Ave. South side schools Rice, MC, DeLaSalle, Marist, Rita, St Iggy and St Laurence have way fewer Chicago neighborhood to draw from. You can't compare the Public schools you mentioned because the average median income of those schools far exceeds the neighborhoods of the south and southwest suburbs. Lots of Catholic league grads live in these suburbs but sends their kids to public schools instead.

Ugh. Lack of fans in the stands still after all this success is disheartening.
The stands were beyond packed ! The bands shots where you can see the stands were when the band leads the team into the stadium 30 minutes before the game.

I agree I was there and the home stands were not full even when the band was in the stands and not on the field .

So, the "parents and others" area north of the band section was packed. The student section was filled about 1/2 way up the stands...which is about average. Saturday afternoons can be tough because people need to work, etc. My son, who played with all this year's seniors last year desperately wanted to be there, but he couldn't get out of his shift at work. He gets off work at 6pm on Saturdays, so this coming week's game he can make the second half at least.
This Saturday is in essence a night game, let's see if it's any different. Unfortunately it will be 30 degrees at gametime, but nothing they can do about that. Student tickets are going to be $3...I guess Palatine is gonna pay the IHSA the $2 difference...in an effort to get more kids out. Don't know about other schools, but at PHS regular season games are free for students w/school ID
