4-8: mark it down. And Beamer did it to himself

This team is terrible. The sooner yall accept it the easier it’ll be. I walked out of the stadium when Vandy went up 21-7, I saw a team quit. I saw players that didn’t care. NIL and pay for play is killing college athletics. No one plays for the school or fans anymore. College football is dead. Accept it and move on. Sold my season tickets and bought me a big ole new TV! Now I can watch all the games, quit wasting money on hoping one day this school will take it seriously, news flash they won’t. As long as there are 80k in that stadium even fielding a losing team, the university doesn’t care, they’ve already got your money.

On paper we have talent on the OL, but they are not executing. Whether that is because they are over-rated, the scheme, conditioning or on-field coaching I have no clue. We pay Beamer a bunch of money to figure these things out. He also has his dad to talk to and get advice. I think he will find the right combination eventually, but if he goes 3-9 or 4-8 this year he will likely have to hire a new offensive staff. That will set us back another year or two and might hurt us in the portal.
If we go 3-9 I think the portal is going to really hurt us this year.

I think you are right. It looks to me from the outside that Beamer is producing a "yo-yo" program. Up and down, up and down. I don't KNOW what will happen tonight. But, I THINK we are going to get blown out. I hope not. Eli Drinkwitz has got Missouri rolling. They went 11-2 and 10-3 the past two seasons. They are 3-0 coming into this game. Look at Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss: 10-3, 8-5, 11-2 and 10-3 the past 4 seasons. They are 3-0 this season. Why are Drinkwitz and Kiffin producing consistent good seasons? To quote Steve Spurrier: "Why not us?". Before someone yells "NIL", according to the 247 site, we are 22nd in NIL. Missouri and Ole Miss were not in the Top 25.

I don't get that either. It ain't the competition for players either. Ole Miss has to compete against the Texas schools, MSU and LSU.

Nothing we’ve done so far this year convinces me they can stay on the field. We’ve been putrid offensively

You are more optimistic than me that he will eventually find the right combination. It's just a different world now with NIL and the portal, the whole idea of "building a team" over 3 - 5 years just no longer applies, I mean another 4-star player didn't pan out and left the team this week. And honestly, was Frank Beamer really all that, and times have changed tremendously. I really think that's why Saban got out.
I attended USC more years ago than I want to admit, but one big problem with USC recruiting has always been the campus environment, it's in the middle of downtown and not even a nice downtown. The football, baseball, and other facilities are scattered miles away, all over the city and the campus has no real beginning and end, on and on. But ignoring that, it's about the $ now and we are never going to be near the top in that. Tanner screwed our chance for any relevance by screwing up Spurrier's departure and hiring Muschamp, and the rest is history. I mean even with Spurrier, we made the championship game once, lost and never returned. Fans at some point have to accept the reality that we are a mid-tier to lower-tier SEC team. I call it accepting mediocracy, Tanner was the king of it.

I am not gonna hang my hat every season on us managing to pull something out of our a**. Yes, we got lightning in a bottle last year. But here’s the thing that tells you we were simply lucky last year. We have not come close to duplicating anything that gave us a success down the stretch last year. If it was actually due to quality coaching, we would see that carried over this year, but you don’t. It’s like they wiped the slate completely clean and we’re starting off exactly where we started off last year.
It’s more to do with players than coaching ask UNC. They got one of the best coaches of all time

No, UNC didn't get one of the best coaches of all time. UNC hired a coach who benefitted from having one of the best qbs of all time on his team for a number of years. Outside of the years he had that qb, his record is pretty dismal.

Then what is the excuse at Texas A&M? They seem to be loaded every year but seldom live up to their potential. If they ever get a Saban or Spurrier, the college football world better look out.

They have a good coach now and have the best record after 6 games in 30 years.

Bumping this up.

Beamer is in a bed of his own making by bringing back a man who was, objectively, one of the very worst OL coaches in the country. Then he exacerbated the situation by making an uninspired and lazy internal promotion for OC.

Looking back, it's amazing that anyone thought the offense would look anything like other than has it looked so far this year.

He can be snippy and defensive all he wants, but he has nobody but himself to blame.

This is not a situation like Franklin's DC hire blowing up this year. That DC could have gone to virtually any program in the country. It was hailed by every pundit in the country as a home run hire by Franklin. Just happened to not work out.

Beamer's hire of Shula, however, was met with a collective "huh" and head scratching. The ensuing articles were not a listing of his accolades and accomplishment as an OC. Rather, they were deep dives evaluating why this may just be a good hire. There was nothing obviously good about it.

I should add, I was being a little hyberbolic with my 4-8 prediction. I still kind of thought something would click at some point. There is indeed clicking going on, but the kind of click you hear when you turn the key on your car ignition and the battery is dead.
