No subdivision may end up a nightmare in 1A and 4A. The difference in school sizes in those divisions are still way far off from one another. 1A with 200 kids versus a school with 600 kids is a lot to overcome concerning depth, roster size and injury. 4A could be even worse, 1500 ADM versus 2800 ADM. This will help the bigger schools with more kids playing IMO.

Yeah I good school with 350 cant beat a 2a Reidsville the plays 1a because of free lunch. This will hurt the 1a fan base.

The reason its done in other sports is because enrollment doesn't matter as much in the other sports.
How does a well known member not know that. Oh yeah this is a 2a board. Its like a 2a shool with 900 kids having to compete with schools with 2100 kids.

Best I can find with my quick search there are around 206 High schools governed by the south carolina high school athletic league and north carolina has over 400 schools yet they have 5 championships and we have 4. 4 too little 8 too much. 5 or 6 fits better to me.

If they are going to 10 regular season games only, why not add a round to the playoffs?

Not sure. There is that speculation.
I have always said, reidsville will never play Shelby again. The bickering gets too many clicks.
Look at it this way.

If Reidsville is allowed to play up to 2A it means Shelby will save a lot of money by not having to bus all those kids from Crest just so they won't have to meet up with the Rams in the split division state playoffs. ;):cool:o_O

I love it will make everything more competitive and make making the playoffs and winning a ring mean more.

Plus, it'll take away some of that whinning we hear after the State Championships about who's better the A or AA team that won. Also, helps NC football playoffs look better as far as teams that wins 2 or 3 games showing up in the playoffs and some even with a home games.😅🤦‍♂️

I like the one champion thing again...but I think NC should go to 5 classifications instead of staying with just 4....SC is smaller than NC and they have 5 classes....Georgia is almost the same population wise as NC and they have SEVEN classes...................

The title games have not been big money makers and a logistical nightmare.

I would like to see five football playoff divisions all played at the same site or two at the most with staggered times.

I have always preached they could easily have four classes but make the football playoffs six divisions. Qualify conference champions and then Max Prep rankings. Same percentage of schools from each class make the playoffs. The largest 32 schools are D1. The smallest 32 are D6. Champions are too seed. Everyone else is at large. 192 teams make the playoffs. Play ball.

TN has 6 classes plus 3 private divisions. The championship games are all played at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN. The 3 private divisions played yesterday. They play 3 games today and 3 games tomorrow.

We need 5 classes. But the disparity in 1A is actually not as bad as it used to be because so many charter schools have opened.

I think we will see 5 or 6 classes in 4 years.

I think eliminating the subdivisions was a way to get the schools to vote for more classes. The schools had no real reason to go to more classes while everybody got a championship. Now that that's taken away there is more of a reason to increase the number of classes.

Just my completely uneducated opinion.

We might have to wait until 2025 though. I am not sure if we can decide to realign again in 2023 with a 5A class added.

Yes, it will be 2025. They COULD change their mind and subdivide without realigning, but can't actually make 5 or 6 independent classes.

I think the NCHSAA hurt the chance for the proposal to pass for 5 or 6 by leaving open the possibility of having only 3 classes, which scared a lot of small schools or schools surrounded by bigger schools.

Had they said "4 or more" I think it passes.

Plus, the NCHSAA put out several comments that were vague and seemed to be discouraging the proposal passing. So if they WANTED it to pass, they went anout it a funny way.

But yes, I think we get 5 or 6 classes in 2025

my grandsons have been playing travel baseball tournaments since May (fall baseball season just ended)...not sure why football wouldn't be available for kids...but who knows with the Socialists in charge.............
Ram, my guess is these baseball tournaments have been played on private property, not school grounds. Not a lot of football fields that is not on school property.

The High School’s in the Triad had a 7 on 7 league this fall that played on private soccer fields. That would never have happened on public schools.

Davidson County leased fields to a private entity for baseball. The county was under the mistaken impression that doing it that way absolved them from liability. They also chose not to enforce the capacity limits.
Can’t imagine a school system doing that under the circumstances.
