Kill was looking for tough gamers who have the athleticism to play in the B1G, and he found them. Both of the Wayne kids had great seasons and fits what he wants culture wise. He doesn't care about recruiting ranks and I trust his judgement. Sometimes you have to look beyond the number of stars and other offers.

Kill just got here a few weeks ago and never even saw these kids play.
Let's not build them into B1G gamers just yet ( but we can hope). This is the best he can get at this point and leave it at that.

Pretty sure Kill has watched extensive film on dozens of potential targets

If you force me to pick between Devera and someone like Bryce Watts, I'm picking Devera every time.

A lot of those teams will also fill out their class with 2 star kids. We also might end up with 4 4 stars. How many times in the past 20 years can you say Rutgers had 4 4 star commits?

Abro - if you're talking 247 there is a "glitch" right now. Earlier today, prior Simmons' commit, we moved up to 38th. We're now at 53rd, however, Simmons for some reason is a 0'star kid whereas, earlier, he was a 3-star on 247 (as he is on Scout as well). I'm sure that will get fixed ASAP.

On Scout we're sitting at 43 which has us 10th, ahead of Iowa, Wiscy, Purdue, and Indiana. Odd that NW and Minny are ahead of us but we'll see how things fall.

But you do realize there is likely no way Northwestern, Illinois, etc., would land enough 3-stars, filling out the rest of a 25 or so person class, to keep that average up, right? Even Iowa would lose a large % of that current per star average. NW only has 16 freakin' commits. I think we pass Minny on the average scale, as well.

I'm not too worried. This is a very solid class - better than any of the last 4 by far, IMHO - and might get better by signing day. I think "will," actually.

**EDIT: when you take into account the P and K with this class, as well as the PWO's, I would think all have got to be happy right now.

The average star rating thing is a bit stupid. Worry more about the number of elite level recruits you get. If we land 4 4 star players this year then nobody should complain. Just because we have a good amount of 2 star guys doesn't mean that they weren't higher on the staff's list than a 3 star guy according to Rivals. I'm sure we could have filled our class with 3 star guys but fortunately coaches don't recruit based on recruiting service rankings.

Schiano always talked about how he always had pressure to recruit the higher rated players despite him liking a lower rated player.

On the scout site RU now ranks 65th in commits/stars average (next to last in Big10).
We have a lot of spots to fill this year,no doubt. The big question is do you fill them all even if they are 2 stars or 0 stars OR do you hold them over to the next recruiting class.
I'm sure a tough question for the staff and Ash.

Actually number of elite level recruits is not a good way of looking at it. Its the core of the class, say the middle third. If they are players that you think can be multi year starters or even stars then you have a good class. The 2011 and 2009 classes had 8 four stars of which exactly one became an elite level player for us.

Abro, get a paper bag and breathe in and out, in and out. Your info is flawed a bit right now. When we land a few more recruits to close out this class we will be 7th in the B1G and probably somewhere in the upper 30's. So relax and enjoy the next few days.

My INFO is INFALLIBLE ! lol. I'm buying my 42nd season ticket whether you like it or not ! And still tailgating with the best fo them ! (not quite, but still a few Manhattens and beers)

PS - Balance of schedule for the RU wrestling team:

Feb 5- Home vs Indiana
Feb 6- Away vs Ohio St
Feb 12- Home vs Northwestern
March 4 & 5--- BIG 10 Championships at Indiana U
March 16-18- NCAA Championships in St. Louis !!!!!!!

My wife just said I'm an underrated 2 star with unappreciated humor but slower than molassessess.

Abro, what;s your point? That Ash didn't out recruit Ohio State? Not sure you were on this board when Flood lost 14 kids and would have been a hero to land these kids. Ash has passed his first real test. The kids from Wayne hills are football players. I'm glad we picked them up.

Has this ever gone our way? There's always that one dreaded family member who persuades the kid not to come here. Maybe I just suffer from battered Flood syndrome, but it always seems that way.

Believe me, I feel your pain. And truthfully, there's no way to tell for sure what will happen regarding this young guy other than it appears we have a genuine chance with him.

But just going by the law of averages, somehow, some way...the football gods have to finally allow a few of these to go into the plus column for us. (And I'm hoping like hell that this is one of the first.)

If so, good job we're not recruiting his sister then. -Hopefully this young guy will go where he really wants to go and won't listen to extraneous noise from others...(especially from the dreaded "uncle").

Even so a 17/18 year old is still very much influenced by their family. It doesn't mean Coach Ash and company can't change their minds.

Evaluations are such a subjective thing. And even the greatest coaches aren't always right about a 17 year old. It should go without saying that some 5* perform like 2s and vice versa. So, you fill out your recruiting class with the best you can get. Those that don't work out....you live with.

Abro and his friends are the biggest Flood apologists and would like nothing better than to see Ash fail. Why then would anybody post negative crap like this on the final week of recruiting push. Such a d-bag move.

With Flood's recruiting, him and his buddies were the first to defend the two star recruits. Today? Well, there you have it.

Biggest hypocrites in RU nation.

I'm tired of the "Star Tards" or those who keep asking what other offers the recruit had. If they can play, they can play. It doesn't matter what their subjective ranking is or who else felt they were worthy.

Bill Parcells always had his "lunch bucket guys" who weren't highly thought of but loved to play and made a difference. If these coaches, who have been doing this all their lives think these guys are worthy, I'll take their opinion over those worried about some ranking that in the end means nothing when teams hit the field.

We'll have our answer on the strength of this class in three years or so when we see how many are still here; how many are in the two-deep; and how many are playing well.

My point is we are finishing the class with 3 'reaches' which brings down the average of star/commit to near last in the Big
Did the rb Richardson commit?

You got to stop asking such incendiary questions, lol. Look, your post almost caused a Board Meltdown. With just 1 question, lol. Told you.
