Who would have thought? Wow!
And if KF hadn't gone turtle mode, as he always does with a lead, Iowa easily could have put up around 55 points. I mean, fourth and 1 and you try to draw them offside and then you punt? LOL That's SO KF, and it's so stupid. Iowa was running all over UW, yet KF wouldn't trust his offense to gain ONE yard . . . Wow. Not surprising, of course, but really damn frustrating and, TBH, embarrassing.

Aren't "style points" kind of important when a committee is determining your post-season fate? Ofc something like that would never occur to KF, but I don't want to sound too critical after a big win either. But still ... 50+ would've been nice.

If you had told me we would score 41 pts I would have assumed a ST teams score and a couple of turnovers would have been involved

and what makes it really aggravting is that the worst thing that could have happened is Washington has a first down at their own 40 with a 23-point deficit and about 4 minutes to play. no way could they have come back from that.

Your such a clown. That doesn't mean they couldn't stop you on any one play, and why risk it when your beating them by 20-30 points and give them any momentum, on a short field. There's no style points for scoring one more time either.

No. We'll get in the playoff if we go 10-2 minimum or 11-1 for sure. Whether or not we scored 10 more points against Washington will have pretty much no impact on us getting in. And what probably "occured to Kirk" was not giving them any momentum on a shorter field when we were controlling the game.

Not really about style points, but I would have liked to have seen Iowa take a shot right before the end of the first half. The way we were moving the ball, putting that dagger in right before half could have been big.

10-2 to CFP is no gimme...sure, it's a chance and depending who we beat and/or lose to, yet the SEC will def get picked over a 10-2 Iowa team unless it's a Top 10 NW loss for example, etc.

Your right, its "really aggravating" . Good Lord, some of you guys. Many here thought we'd lose another left coast game on a short week. Instead we go out and play the best all round game of the season and secure a solid conf win, that many put down as a possible loss pre season, and we're aggravated that We didn't risk giving them better field position in a game we had well in hand. This forum is maddening some times.

I already said 10-2 is a MAYBE at this time. I just don't see people on here losing their SHite over not having one more score. Some of the same people questioning the thought process of trying to hit 50 are the same ones who thought we'd go out to Seattle and lose, and NOW there is something else to gripe about. Its nonsense.

I'm just glad in the convo..SEC with a 9 game schedule does help and hurt as they don't play the blind sisters of st. mary in Week 12 so even an L might help a resume, they might also beat the crap outta each other and knock someone out of CFP. A close loss to a ranked NW team on the road and an L at home to OSU gets them into the chatter...too early to tell. UCLA is in deep trouble even with that schedule with QB out and who know if B12 gets two bids. Just win baby, 11-1 if it happens is an auto bid regardless of what happens in B10 title game if we somehow make it there.

I think the Big 12 is only getting 1. Tech is nowhere near as good as they were last year. But there’s going to be so many SEC teams with 3 losses I just don’t know what’s going to happen. GA with that win looks be in, I think Texas loses at least 1 more, and even 2, LSU already has 2, it’s crazy. IU I think is nowhere near as good but they just know how to win. I don’t think we can get in with 2 losses unfortunately but there’s a lot of football to be played.

You are correct that the hawks could have probably scored one more time. And I know injuries occur at any time of a football game but I think if KF goes for it on 4th and 1 around the 50 yard like iirc and they get the 1st down then Iowa controls the tempo, the clock, etc. Instead our defense went back out there and it might have been mostly 2nd teamers and they had to play a lot of snaps which increases the chance of injury. Never want to see injuries.

So I was with you and thinking at the time with a 23 pt lead go for it and control the game

In this situation I think going for it on that 4th and 1 made sense and I will re-state why with what I replied to Duke Slater. If Iowa goes for it on that 4th and 1 and they probably get it then they can control the clock, the game, the number of remaining plays. If they get the 1st down then 3 plays eats 2 minutes of the clock and another first down in kneel down time.

Instead, by punting we saw Wash go all out running a bunch of more plays where our defenders had a bigger chance of getting an injury.

Wouldn’t consider it embarrassing but yeah, I couldn’t believe it either. Get the F’ing 1st down and put another score on the board.

Silly and definitely a “foot off the gas” classic Kirk moment 👎🏼 Why does he do this?

Just typical on the forum. We come off a rough loss at home, in a game that meant aLOT to the teams chances to make the playoff. (Many here have doubts we can head west on a short week and win, again go back and look at the threads from last week). Some are predicting will struggle going forward, and some said we may go 6-6. So how does the team respond is the question. Kirk and his staff rally the troops, ( a skill they are good at), and they make the trip and play the best game of their season in all three phases. What does the Day after bring us? The same old same old. Lets find something to complain about. We didn't score 50 points. We didn't take a meaningless risk of letting them flip the field when we already had a 24 point lead, and would force them to drive the field, (something they had struggled with the whole game). I swear to God, there is ZERO question had we beaten OSU, there would have been someone on here complaining about something Kirk or his staff did, or did not do.

Here's the better question. In the big picture, why in the hell does it matter, other than you can't find anything else worth complaining about.....

Going to need one of Nebraska, Minnesota and Northwestern to win 10 games and us beat them to give us a high quality win on the resume or win out.

With half the regular season remaining and so many teams in the playoff chase we need to quit the complainng and take it one at a time. Let Michigan, Penn State etc. complain and enjoy where we are now and talk Minnesota and the Hawks.

Kirk went for a first down once earlier this year and didn't get it. There's always next year.
