ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL SHRINE GAME SET FOR JUNE 16, 2018

Bloomington, IL – The Illinois Coaches Association and the Shriners of Illinois will host the 44th annual Illinois High School Shrine Game on June 16th at Tucci Stadium on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. Kick-off for the 44th annual game is scheduled for Saturday, June 16th at 1:00p.m. The pregame festivities will begin with a fun Walk for LOVE event held at the stadium starting at 9am. Eighty-eight of the state’s best football players participate in this all-star game to raise money for Shriners Hospital for Children, the official philanthropy of Shriners International. More information about scheduled events, along with rosters for both the East and West teams, can be found at www.ilshrinegame.com.

Each year at the Shrine Game, two patients from the Shiners Hospital for Children are chosen to be the prince and princess. The princess is Ava Diehl from O’Fallon who is a patient at the Shriners Hospital in St Louis. The prince is Zack Strand from Bourbonnais who is a patient at the Shriners Hospital in Chicago. The prince and princess are honorary representatives from each hospital that will benefit from the money raised through the game. Last year’s event raised nearly $10,000 that went directly to providing outstanding medical care for children at the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Our goal is to create a fun and exciting environment for the players, families, Shrine kids, and Shriners and to make this a signature event for the Shriners of Illinois. This year’ s game will be aired live on Cities 92.9 which is a part of the Great Plains Media Group. The featured banquet speaker will be Hayden Schaumburg from Watseka. Hayden suffered a spinal cord injury while playing football in high school and was a patient at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago for his rehabilitation.

@EdgyTim

How do they find the players for this game?

Coaches are asked to send in nominations and that's about all I know. The coaches and players love this game and rave about it.....it's just a horrible time of the year I've been trying to get to see it for awhile but it falls in the heart of college one day camps so....also getting top tier kids just won't happen anymore with kids reporting to colleges earlier and earlier.

would it work within the IHSA rules to move it to say January (like some of the National Games)? Problem with that in IL is that dome field would be preferred due to the weather:cool:

Would the IHSA rules allow for a Junior "all star" charity game in the spring? Wow I bet a lot of college coaches would attend and alot of football fans in general since it has been many months since the last game!

Anyone remember the Suburban Coaches All Star game North Central College? They used to get some pretty good players who were going D1 in it, I used to go all the time in the 90’s.

You could schedule this game anytime of the year post season and the D1 players will not be playing. It has nothing to do with the timing and all to do with the college coaches not allowing them to play. It seems that the only games they will allow are with the shoe contract guys, and the military. We have seen this in PA with the Big 33 game and the Crab Bowl. The coaches from the big D1s started saying no and that has now trickled down to the Patriot, CAA, and A10 teams that are 1AA, and this year we’ve started to see the big D2 programs starting to ban the post season for their 50% or higher scholie players. It’s a shame these traditions are being forgone because of performance pressure at the next level.
