I found a clip of that talk. Apparently the sec wanted to formalize the revenue split mentioned above where football gets the vast majority. UK and Mitch vetoed it. So whatever the split actually is, that guarantees UK football is getting the least split in the entire sec.

Mitch is still refusing to disclose what the split actually is, but he will have to disclose it if they get sued. Stoops says hes happy, but i think its only because he has no current leverage.

Given all that, im going to guess the uk basketball split is 20% instead of the sec standard of 8%. Ya it isnt 45, but its still absurd because of the very clear message it sends.
What is this, like the UN Security Council, where one of the permanent members can veto a resolution??? I guess the league office requires unanimous consent??

How bout this…now that it’s okay to pay athletes, how bout we get the best mercenaries in to win the SEC, maybe get to the championship game?

Yep, just as I thought, another excuse. It’ll never happen at Kentucky since winning bball is what matters.

Enjoy your 4 wins this year.

I feel like BB could raise 20 million on its own and doesn’t really need a piece of the NIL rev share.

With that said, how did people think the split was going to go?!

Especially given how things went this past season for both squads!

Pope and BB are on the rise now and could very easily make a deep run this season and next few. Have to invest in that. Even if the BB program isn’t hurting for money or fund raising power. They have the momentum and best shot at quick ROI.

CMS and football have had over a decade of massive spending. He’s gotten every raise, extension, renovation, football only facility, etc…that he’s wanted.

Not sure the ROI in football would be quick if any at all.

Basketball can coast. I wonder if high-dollar NIL guys would be a detriment to the locker room

The problem is not so much the money--but the optics. SEC coaches can easily negatively recruit against us.

Here's a for instance: Madison Central FB player in the late 80s was interested in UK. He was also courted by Tennessee. Johnny Majors showed him around campus and told him to honor his commitment and visit UK. Majors followed up this advice with:"Before you leave UK, go take a look at where the basketball players live."

It's one thing to lose games and struggle in conference. It's a whole other issue to bring grief on yourself as a program/university.
