I was there too, lemonears. So many memorable moments ...

1. Kenny Jackson faking the sPitt dB who was going for the sideline kill shot and Kenny sprinted into the end zone.

2. The aforementioned Sal Sunseri jumping offside but didn't make contact getting back onside and getting clobbered as the play was run through his gap.

3. Dan Marino whiffing (if you could call it a whiff) on Mark Robinson's interception return for the last touchdown.

4. Singing "Happy Birthday" to Jackie Sherrill.

Thank you for reminding me of the anniversary. It's gonna be a GREAT day.

Total dominance. The Pittsburgh P-G had a large photo of Blackledge standing tall in a huge pocket created by our 5 Offensive linemen. There was not a Pitt defensive player within 5 yards of Todd.

We would get the Sunday Paper, it was the Pittsburgh Press the. Sometimes, after a big win, we would also get the Sunday Paper from Johnstown. I think it was the Tribune Democrat back then.

Kenny Jackson's catch, spin, and TD sprint was great. And let's give a nod to his brother, Roger, who had the great end zone interception, when it looked like Marino was about to put Pitt up by 21-0, that ended their threat and killed their momentum, and gave us a huge boost. It was a whole different ballgame after that point.
As beautiful a game as PSU has ever played, imo, and that is saying a lot.
I say it all the time... if there had been playoffs in 1981, PSU would have been a very, very tough out. Maybe better top-to-bottom than 1982. As 1977 may have been better top-to-bottom than 1978.

Agree about both the '81 and '77 teams. That '81 team at the end of the year was very, very good.

I was there. One of the best games I've ever seen. Started on the right foot when Penn State came out of the pre-game locker room and burly LB Chet Parlevecchio knocked over a female Pitt cheerleader. He did not help her up. My flask was empty by game's end as I toasted every Penn State score. Shoeless Mark Robinson was a terror all afternoon; shoeless because he lost a shoe following an INT and took the ball in for a Pick 6, although I don't know if they called them a Pick 6 in 1981.

Chet Parlaveccio had a monster game. I remember him getting into the face of Jackie Sherrill along the Pitt sideline. I remember a guy (unauthorized) began selling Shitt on Pitt buttons in the Penn State section. I remember being able to storm the field afterward.

My Shitt on Pitt t-shirt is still in my dresser. Doesn't fit me anymore but I will pass it along to my son. Classic.

One of my best buddies in 81 was a Pitt fan. My phone rang when they went up 14-0. I just said there's a lot of time left in this game...

For some reason I didn't hear from him the rest of the game, almost like something may have changed?

That game is an all time classic. The Kenny Jackson spin move along the sideline was a thing of beauty. I was at every Penn State vs Pitt game from '77-'82. Great memories as a boy. The glory years of the rivalry. Our wins in Pitt Stadium in '77 and '81 were epic.

The '77 game ending in the snow was a classic. The Cefalo to Guman reverse punt return for a TD is one of my favorite Penn State plays ever. The '78 game where Joe goes for it on 4th and 2 at the Pitt 4 down 10-7 with about 5 minutes left and Guman scores on the pitch is another great play.

My sister was on the Pitt track team at the time and was working the stands selling Cokes. She told me later that everyone felt the game was over at 14-0.

Me, I was at a wedding. One of my many big wedding games that Penn State won.

44 years ago today Penn State terrorized the pitters. Most memorable game I ever attended. The best part of the game was when I saw Sal Sunseri purposely fall down as Mike Munchak approached him. Sal wanted to avoid getting splattered by another vicious block.
Probably the most amazing game I can recall. Was watching at my friend’s house with all of my gear packed in my car to leave after the game to head to hunting camp. After the team fell down 14-0 and Pitt was driving for what appeared to be a 21-0 lead I told him maybe I should leave now. Obviously stayed to the end and loved every damn minute of the rest of the game.

Sunseri was blubbering in the locker room while being interviewed. He told reporters it wasn't being beaten so badly, but losing to Penn State.

Nonsense. Pure nonsense. No earthly reason to play Pitt and I used to love this rivalry as much as anyone.
Sorry, but I don’t understand holding a grudge from 40 years ago. I’d rather play Pitt every year than Villanova, Delaware or any MAC team. We have no natural rival in the B1G and I’d rather end the season with the Pitt rivalry over manufactured rivalries with Sparty or Rutgers.

Chet the Jet is an all-time underrated Penn State linebacker.
