This is the second go around but there have been nine games in between their 68-46 barn burner.

Both head coaches were assistant's under Glenn Schott at Althoff and BMD's Jimmy Stiebel won three state titles for Althoff (2x football and he pitched the finals in baseball). Their coaching staffs have mixed over the years - former roommates and groomsmen on opposite sidelines.

Even as friends, the coaches beefed after the first match up because Althoff put their first string offence in for one last bomb after BMD scored and then onside kicked and scored again.

These are the two closest Catholic schools in the area and it will be a 1:00 kickoff. I'm guessing 5000 will attend.

I know that Althoff has a pretty special senior class I believe......football track hoops etc seems like the same kids in all three sports excel.

That's a junior dominated squad - the QB and one receiver are seniors. The rest return to the gridiron next fall after the hoops season, which hopefully results in a title this year.

QB, Young and Ferguson are Seniors. I am sure Goodwin will not play next year (very timid this year and do not want to risk basketball career). The RB position will be good next year but defense will lose some. Waiting to see how they respond to physical play.

You very well may know something I do not about Goodwin, but if they win state, it will be hard to walk away senior year. He had more than 100 yards over the middle this weekend - he did not play scared at all.

From what I saw he was looking to not get hurt by gingerly laying down. Pretty obvious to me. He is a big target that Althoff used over the middle constantly this past Saturday. On 3 of those passes he could have scored had he made any attempt to not get hit and play football. If they make it to Phillips, which I think they will over the middle will come with some huge impact. He currently has offers from Mizzou and Illinois is basketball so I believe the value of not getting hurt will play a role. I can be wrong and gladly admit if I am but, I am pretty sure football contact is not what he likes.

But the boy has the body for football more than basketball - damned shame.

I agree with this 100%. He has the size and the tools to play on Sunday however you know as well as I do that Basketball rules. He is Gates from San Diego. Maybe he will realize it at some point during his college hoop career. Great High school basketball player. If he grows to 6'7 or so then I will change my thoughts.

He's the Illini' main recruiting target at the 2G. Both him playing football at the next level or going to mizzoo are highly unlikely.

Because Tilmon plays C/PF while Goodwin, as stated, is a 2G.

Only get 4 scholarships in which 3 were offered to class of 2017 recruits in the metro area. Tillmon, Goodwin, and the kid from Belleville East who is also a 2 guard. Goodwin is more of a SF/PF right now. Anything outside of that is not playing to his strengths.

All good. I'll pass this info onto John Groce. I'm sure he'll find your scouting report useful.

First off his name is Jordan Goodwin not Jonathan. You hijacked the thread throwing in an opinion from someone who obviously has no clue other than he is a basketball recruit for the Illini. Crusader who is knowledgeable and I were discussing the kids that play for Althoff as this is an Althoff thread. You tried to throw a smart comment about my analysis of his game to act as if GROCE knows better. I pointed to the fact that GROCE is stinking it up at Illinois so maybe he don't know. Coach K or Izzo maybe so. The point is Goodwin body type and skills are more suited for football regardless of what he as a kid and his parents decide is best for him. I wish him well.

I am aware his name is Jordan. Obviously posting at 5:48am gooped up on cold meds was not the wisest decision so you got me there. Congrats, Ace.

"...from someone who obviously has no clue other than he's a basketball recruit for the Illini." One of best friends/fraternity brother has three sons. The two oldest grew up attending school in Belleville making it through sophomore and freshman years respectively at Belleville West before moving 15 miles down the road to Columbia where they are now a junior a senior (the junior plays hoops at Columbia).
Not surprisingly those two still keep in contact with a TON of kids from Belleville West, Belleville East and, gasp, Althoff. They also follow hoops recruiting closer than me so when we talk that subject usually dominates our conversation. We visited over the 4th and the party we attended had parents/students from Columbia, Althoff and West.
I chimed into your conversation (deepest and most heartfelt apologies) to post something I heard from two high school kids extremely close to and knowledgeable of the situation.

Still unsure how the Groce comment has anything to do with Goodwin's skill set but I'm sure you'll take it upon yourself to tell me.

You stated that he will A. not play football on the next level and B. Not go to Mizzou simply because Illinois has him as their main shooting guard recruit.

Crusade and I were discussing his body type and skill set and you chose to chime in on what will happen with this kid as if you lived with him or had this discussion with his family. He derailed the thread with your opinion of Illinois basketball. This thread was about the athletes that attend Althoff and play football. We were discussing that the kids currently play multiple sports for Althoff and that the kid might now play multiple sports for Althoff next year. Crusade felt like it would be a shame if he didn't considering in his opinion the kid maybe a better football player in the long run.

If you are still confused then I can't help you.
I'm happy in a weird way our area teams have all lost so the pull to visit this board is diminished by 95+%. Your explanation is, as is common in this forum, clear as mud. Ciao until next August, Big Guy.

Had Edgy gotten the 8A seeding correct, Edwardsville would just now be running into WV ... it's Tim's fault.
