Football 4A Graham

Not enough kids probably. Also those kids would have a high chance of getting hurt. I've seen Graham years ago and they were bad. I can only imagine how much worse they've gotten. A city Grahams size shouldn't be having these issues though.
It's been going on forever. It's gotten worse but its not going to stop. I'm talking about transfers.
The gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" is widening. I think some of the have nots are starting to rebel. Rebel is probably not the right word but you know what I mean. Kids, and parents of kids in programs that lose players to transfer, are not going to continue to participate knowing they have little or no chance to compete. HP Central did not score a point last year. Think about that. How crazy is that? I am not close enough to that situation to know if it was all about transfers but HPC was once a very solid program. They won a 3A state championship under Gary Whitman in 1999.
Most people in Alamance County are aware of the factors affecting Graham. For a period, they suffered a steady enrollment decline. This affected football numbers and like most schools, when Covid hit, it was almost a death nail. The opening of SE Alamance a couple of years ago required the redrawing of district lines (not the first time lines were redrawn). This produced a domino effect on several schools. Graham actually gained enrollment but the damage to football was already done. I know they have lost players to Southern Alamance and Cummings through the years. In some ways, you may say Graham has been the victim of a perfect storm. The current conference is not going to be conducive to winning.
Finally, one school in particular has held political influence over most of the county for decades. I'm sure the Williams folks are crying that their little brother next door may never reclaim the glory they experienced in 1999 when they played for a state championship and 2000 when they last won one.
