Currently, there are 71 teams with 6 wins making them eligible for one of the 80 bowl invitations. There are 13 teams that currently have 5 wins and one more remaining game to be played. It is a very real possibility that a team with only 5 wins will get a bowl invite, because there will most likely not be 80 teams with 6 wins. Missouri, Kentucky, Nebraska, Illinois, and Washington are the Power Conference teams that are sitting on 5 wins with one week left. These are the schools that have the best chance to get invited to a bowl with only 5 wins. Hopefully, we beat little brother and this becomes moot.
We don't deserve a bowl for a losing season.
[eyeroll]Good point. One could argue it's nothing more than football welfare and will just disincentivize the will or desire to get better.
If we did go to a bowl at 5-7 I wouldn't be shocked if Stoops gave the team 2 weeks off of practice to physically heal..... Be on par with host of his head coaching decisions. Not gonna lie, it would be almost a smack in the face to go 5-7 in a bowl, but at this point the team needs more practice time. Those extra practices could help boatloads. Also I'd like to see how they respond with time off. Really liked having the bye week vs Louisville last year but playing a tune up might be just as beneficial.
If we're 5-7, the invite (if there is one) will be based on being a Power 5 conference member, amount of fans who would travel, etc. In other words......to the bowl committee (if there is one....I can see some of these so-called bowls being run by a guy with a computer out of his house) it's all about the $$$$.I'll happily take a bowl game, but I have difficulty envisioning us being one of the 5-7 teams that gets one.

Texas, Kansas St., Nebraska, Washington, UK and San Jose State would need upset wins for 5-7 teams not to go
He has 2 5-7 teams bowling.
What is really the damns shame of it all is, if we punch in a TD from inside the 5 against Vandy none of this talk is happening. If they had used Hyde to wipe out some defenders instead of running up the middle all of the time, we might have scored easily. Or if we had play faked into the middle and run around the end or used misdirection etc. Dawson has no imagination..What a damn shame we gave Auburn and Vandy games away. What momentum this program would have right now..Had we won those 2 and beat UL we are looking at 8-4 and probably the Peach or Gator Bowl....Just wow..
UK must win Saturday to get invited to a bowl game.
The 5-7 teams that get to go to bowl games will be decided by APR score. The NCAA rule that governs this is that any of the top 5 APR schools can be selected for a bowl game with a 5-7 record. There is still some confusion about how to apply this rule, but it is expected to be cleared up this week.
If APR is used, Kentucky would not be one of the 5-7 teams picked, because they are ranked 100th out of 128 in APR score with a 945.

I agree with this.
