All Intra City schools so no impact on the IHSA playoffs....still sad to see tho.

  1. Chicago Tech
  2. Douglass
  3. Farragut
  4. Gage Park
  5. Uplift

Sad, but less of a result of anti-football mood than a reflection of people bailing on those schools, neighborhoods, city.

Upon scheduling (and defeating) a team from a conference not eligible to participate in the IHSA state playoffs, should any devaluation occur to the playoff-eligible team in terms of the win itself and/or the numbers of wins used for playoff points gained for wins by the non-eligible team?

@EdgyTim With the decline of participating CPS schools, do you think we will see the good CPS programs, such as Phillips, Simeon, Morgan Park, etc..., getting better? I'd assume that students, in CPS schools, that drop programs will find their way to the good CPS schools that do.

Yes but in all honesty how many kids playing for those schools would see the field at a Phillips etc

Will the top tier programs get better? I'm not sure that "better" is the right term to use here, as Edgy is correct that many of those kids might not see the field at the more top tier football oriented schools. What will likely happen, though, is that they may get deeper talent pools. The first string may not be that much "better", but the second string will...Maybe the effective move for those kids would be to more of a second tier CPS program...

Look at it this way...Wilmington doesn't do anything exciting other than win. Part of the reason they do that is that the Wildcats are generally much deeper than their opponents, which is more obvious at the smaller schools...They practice against a second string defense which might be the third best defense in the I-8 small....When they play RC and Westmont, the offensive line dominates partly because they practice against a better defense than the Comets and Sentinels starting defenses...

I think it'll go the way of basketball: four different schools in four years. And the IHSA won't do a thing.

Since I had never heard of Muchin before today, I looked up the Intra-City schools list and discovered there is a Chicago Noble/Pritzker and a Chicago Noble/Rauner...maybe someone can convince them to play each other, with the winner being the public because the loser's namesake has to stop stupid negative campaign ads...or have them play on election day...

On the other side of the CPS spectrum is the Raby HS program as referenced in an article in the sports section of the Tuesday Sun-Times. It seems like a 5-day lock-in at the school is in place this week. I wonder how that squares with the IHSA practice limitations in force for Week 1?

None of these schools truly care about athletics and probably even the well being of the students on a macro level. It's too bad as our inner city schools need to give multiple avenues athletics or not for kids to look to enrich and better their lives. Farragut doesn't even have JV or Freshman basketball as they struggle to field 15 for a varsity roster and that's not a sport "under fire." That's just the lack of emphasis that the school places on extra curricular activites.

Twenty years ago, Farragut was possibly the best hoops team in the nation with Kevin Garnett & Ronnie Fields, and now they can't support anything but a varsity...how the mighty can fall...and how the issues in Chicago are so much deeper now than they were 20 years ago...

From the Tribune today:
As of last month, not a single incoming ninth-grader had accepted an invitation to attend Hirsch High School in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood when classes begin in September. Only one rising freshman took an offer to attend Douglass High School in South Austin.

All the kids are at the "scams" known as Charter Schools. They have gutted & robbed the CPS system & district schools in ways it will never recover from. They keep selling those "wolf tickets" and people (community) still buying them...

Sometimes you actually need to do some research...Douglass has listed with the IHSA an enrollment of 101...and now we find that only one freshman signed up to go there...Hirsch IHSA lists as 136 kids...Farragut 713...Gage Park, my dad's alma mater, 330...Chicago Tech 241...Chicago Uplift 241...

Gutted by the charter schools, probably...but Douglass & Hirsch at those listed enrollments would have problems fielding a team period...

I've seen Southland Charter play hoops several times against Wilmington...snooty bunch...now if the Rich Township school district plays it right it should move Southland Charter into the Rich South property when Southland's enrollment surpasses South's...I'm kind of surprised that Southland is not co-oping football or other sports with South...and also surprised that Southland has not found a conference - why not join the Southland with its brethren...[/QUOTE]

That won't happen! No place or need for a Charter in the Southland Conference...NO THANKS!!!

I’m glad to hear that but let’s hope nobody gets hurt or they won’t finish the season.Co-Op is the best option I guess

I am hearing that North Grand may be canceling its season.

Juarez showed up to its first game with about 17 players.

Well Michele Clark is thriving on the Westside. Has a team of 60 kids. Is 3-0 and has 16 playoff pts right now. Has a chance to run the table if they can get past Kenwood in week 6
