We don't really seem to be a factor in his recruitment any longer, but he's coming anyway.

Are we taking a big swing at him? Should we count him as a potential signee?

A friend has a son who was a good HS player about 10 years ago. The kid wasn't a 4 or 5 star, maybe 3 star on his best day, he was an OL who was dominant on his HS team. He got offers and letters of interest from a lot of schools. The only SEC school that showed any interest was Miss. State and he didn't want to go that far from home. Wake, Duke, Georgia tech, Indiana, UCF and Tulane are the schools I remember them talking about.

The kid took every visit he could, all of the official visits where the school paid for everything and a lot of unofficials where he would get a ticket to the game and get escorted around by some cute girl and meet the coach. The kid had a blast going to schools he had zero interest in attending. I think a lot of HS kids look at it the same way.

Kid ended up at Georgia tech where they moved him to TE and I don't think he ever played in a game outside of being in on special teams plays.

Don't think we have a shot but if he wants to come take a look, we aren't going to turn him away.

We've been in on him for a long time and were considered to be in the lead at one point in time, but then the big dogs got involved.

I'm surprised he is a 5 star. 247 says he needs to bulk up and develop skills to play at the college level but should be a great player in a couple years. I thought 5 star meant ready to play in college right away. His narrative reads like a 4 star.

I've said before; unless USC is a kid's dream school since childhood or there is some strong connection, we have a tough time pulling a kid away from the big time programs and it is easy to understand why.

Yeah, I dunno. He's not even just a 5*, he's the #1 OT and top 5 overall recruit.

If I had a kid who received offers to visit, I would strongly encourage him to take all the visits. They will more than likely never be entertained like this again.

That's probably a big part of it. He's gonna take all his officials and get wined and dined.

Kind of pathetic for us to put on the dog and pony show for him, all the while knowing he's not even really considering us at this point, but I suppose if he's willing to come you have to let him and give it your best shot.

You're miserable, aren't you?

Would you rather we not even try and recruit top talent? It's going to be a battle going up against any big time programs for the top players. Did you act this way when we recruited the likes of Dylan Stewart, Nyck Harbor, Josiah Thompson, Jalewis Solomon, etc.

The rating services (On3, 247, Rivals) all seem to never be on the same page for not only this recruit, but pretty much all recruits. You would think they would at least occasionally have similar evaluations and star ratings. It also seems like they are competing with each other in evaluations as well as eyeballs and maybe they are.

I know one says they are a "compilation" of ratings, but then they will go with a rating of a 4* when the others are 3* and vice versa.

Difference with those guys is they all had us in serious consideration. Sanders has apparently moved on from us at this point.

None of the recruiting services give us much of a shot. That said, like I said above, he's going to use all his officials to get the royal treatment and if he wants to come visit, you don't tell him "no".

He's not coming here but, yes, we still have to try.

Not specifically w/ David Sanders but homeboy has been so negative about any bigtime recruit we're going after.

Jared Smith, Zayden Walker, etc.

I realize that Sanders is a long shot to land right now even though we were near the top of his list earlier in his recruitment.

Well, who knows? As much as we've recruited him, I don't know what new information he could get at this point that would make any difference in his thinking towards us. I guess buddy him up with Pringle and Thompson and see what happens.

Surprised this is our first OV of the year.

I guess that's one of the things that sucks about CFB recruiting (and why *I* wouldn't want to do it); You can't give up. Flips happen. The kid could have a completely unexpected change of heart now, or (with the portal now), two years down the road. You *have* to fight, recruit, and stay after them in case they want to come back across that bridge - can't have it burned.

Good grief naysayers! If you get them on campus you have a chance. These kids do change their minds sometimes don`t they? If you can go and find a reason not too, you shouldn`t complain if the fans at other schools show up and we don`t. Are crowds a factor? Who knows but may be for some kids.

But he's got a degree from a great school!

Appreciate you sharing the anecdote. A good friend of mine played football for Wake Forest. Similar story except he was a 4 year starter.

Even without the entertainment, you get to travel, meet people, and get exposed to new things. I'd tell my kid, "take all your visits, but Dad says that degree and network from Stanford sounds like it's hard to beat 🤓"

Sounds like any sales job :). Every deal dies a thousand deaths.
