No one has mentioned it yet, but Eastern Europe FTW. Many countries are part of the EU, but haven't adopted the euro yet. Hungary, Poland, and Romania for example, you will live high on the hog. Very cheap there and just as many historical sites and landmarks to see.

Not sure how long you're in the Munich area, but I left off Neuschwanstein Castle off my list of Munich things to do. It's a train ride away from Munich in the Alps, but it's breathtaking.

If you're short on time, there are more important things in Munich I would do though. Just if you've got extra time and are looking for something else to see.

Really, really looking forward to Krakow. Was originally going to be in and out in a day or two after seeing Auschwitz, but after checking out things to do on TripAdvisor I extended the stay to four nights.

Looking forward to it as well - going in October in addition to Budapest and Warsaw.

Back in the states - first domestic flight and I have SSSS on my boarding ticket. It means I get "special security" including a free nut tap. Supposedly I'll have to put up with this for the next 4 months. Thanks ISIS.

Yeah - Ibiza would have been something. But Istanbul was a four-day bender; I had nothing left in the tank. I had some family visiting Munich so that also helped me decide where to go.
When I last visited Istanbul, my Turkish (Kurdish) girlfriend served as my guide. That place is a freaking trip!

Glad ya had fun there, Wayne. Munich is awesome. I fondly remember Oktoberfest '87. Happy, and lucky as hell, to have survived. I nearly got run over by a damn bus while in a usual, drunken stupor. Ah, those good old days.
