We did hit the transfer portal for a kicker. He can join 5 star chance Poore and Jackson smith. No offense to the kid, but I’d rather hit the transfer portal for kickers.
Yes, why not continue? As opposed to giving a scholarship to an unproven kicker for 5 years? We did hit the transfer portal for a kicker.
Do you post anything that is not a complaint? You are whining about signing a 5 star.Yes, why not continue? As opposed to giving a scholarship to an unproven kicker for 5 years?
Where is he a 5 star? Sorry for my skepticism, but chance Poore was a 5 star on some website nobody has ever heard of and so was Jaxson Smith (he still has time to be good, but the staff doesn’t seem to be overly confident in him).Do you post anything that is not a complaint. You are whining about signing a 5 star.
When he hits a few 60 yarders to beat U6 he'll be a 5*.I'm sure the kid is a good kicker. And todays game "demands" a good kicker. I wish him a good career at UK. But, FWIW, I've never seen (or heard of) a 5* kicker. (FWIW he is a "no star" prospect on Rivals.)
Most major recruiting services put a 3* "cap" on kickers. That basically means 3*s for the very best. I'm sure most staffs would be much more interested in a 5* position player than a 5* "kicking specialist".
Peace
My point exactly, just seems like taking a transfer kicker who has already excelled at the college level is a safer bet. We’ve missed on a lot of kickers over the years!I hope the kid is great for us. But, that site (Kohl's kicking) ranks him as a 5 star kicker, but the 28th best kicker in the nation. Who knows how they do their rankings. His first D1 offer. Hope he pans out.
If we need a 60 yard FG to beat UL, Kentucky football is no where near what we think it is.When he hits a few 60 yarders to beat U6 he'll be a 5*.
You're right and I actually thought of that. What I should have said was: "If U6 gets within 4 TDs.If we need a 60 yard FG to beat UL, Kentucky football is no where near what we think it is.
Koh'ls Kicking has camps and ranks the kickers based on performance at the camps. They have camps specifically for ranking. They run drills, have competitions, all based on Hang time and distance for Kickoffs and FG accuaracy and distance. They don't rank or evaluate based on their HS game stats.I hope the kid is great for us. But, that site (Kohl's kicking) ranks him as a 5 star kicker, but the 28th best kicker in the nation. It's probably because Kohl's has a criteria to get the 5 stars, based on the camp performance and numbers. It's a numbers game and apparently 45 kids crossed the number threshold to earn 5 stars. They do pay something to attend Camps, but I believe the ranking camps are invitation only. My nephew was supposed to attend a ranking camp but got Covid and couldn't go, then the one later in the summer didn't work out for him schedule wise. He likely would have had a five star ranking as well. He moves in at Miami, OH Tomorrow.Just looked on that website and the top 45 kickers are listed as 5 stars. That seems fishy! Heck on Rivals, they only have 20 TOTAL 5 star recruits nationally.
It’s just embarrassing to see UK sites touting a 5 star commitment from a kicking website these players probably pay to be on and bragging about it.
And avoid Montana State loading up on recruits. That was his best offer until UK.We need to lock up Montana.
It's not an either or choice.I'm sure the kid is a good kicker. And todays game "demands" a good kicker. I wish him a good career at UK. But, FWIW, I've never seen (or heard of) a 5* kicker. (FWIW he is a "no star" prospect on Rivals.)

That's pretty much the same path my nephew took. Grew up playing high level soccer, decided his freshman year he wanted to give kicking a football a try, by the end of the year he was the starting Freshman team kicker then earned the starting varsity Kicker spot his soph. year. got hurt after the first game and missed most of the season until the layoffs, then was arguably one of the top two kickers in the state his Junior and Senior seasons. Set several school and state records along the way. Kicked a 60 yarder in front of Coach Matsakis during an individual workout at UK last year. Have I said how awful Matsakis was as a recruiter? wanted to go to UK, but would have probably ended up at Purdue until the coaching change, Cincy was an option as well until their change. Didn't want to go to UofL regardless of the Coach. Miami, OH showed him the most love and he really liked the school, so that's where he's headed tomorrow. They want him to immediately compete for the KO specialist and take over FG when the current kicker graduates or leaves.Be aware of the fact that this kid has exception leg strength. A few above mentioned kicking 60 yarders, that's exactly what he can do. There's a video floating around of him kicking off and the ball landing 10 yards OUT of the endzone. He has a soccer background, and soccer kickers are also usually pretty accurate.
I'm thinking at the very least they want this guy as the long kick specialist and KOs.
Kickers rarely get early offers early. The majority of the good ones get PWO offers, Scholarship offers are not that common, especially for recruits a year out. Kickers get the leftover scraps if there are any. And most of those don't come until after the signing period when they see what they've got roster wise. And avoid Montana State loading up on recruits. That was his best offer until UK.
would have been awesome if he would have wound up a Cat but I'm sure things will work for him at Miami. That's pretty much the same path my nephew took. I hear ya. The kicking game - not just kicking but long snapping, were big issues last season and probably cost us a game or two. The coaches understand the seriousness of that situation and have invested heavily in upgrading the coaching and player situation in the kicking game. It would have been coaching malpractice for them to do otherwise.Boulware wanted the kid and he’s a really good Special team’s coordinator. It’s really funny people ***** about our kicking and then ***** about anyone they bring in. SMH.
