A RB coach is going to be more effective if he is coaching 10 quality guys versus 10 quality guys plus an additional 10 distractions

Well, if they would be eligible for academic scholarships and financial aid, just like every other student on campus. They just have to actually meet the qualifications for

move him to a GA role in the Strength and Conditioning dept.
He has a place on this football team to contribute, just not in a primary role on the football field.

People seem to think the entire team is together all of the time at practice

Smh

Basically the 105 is the core of the team, the rest are trying to break through and get their chance, doing rehab work, scout team/cannon fodder ... coached mostly by GAs ... they are in meeting room and film study as a unit however

Hmm, that is not the usual description we hear. The walk on program is sold as having the same coaches getting the same opportunity to develop and perform on the field. Not a separate team rehabbing and waiting for someone to get hurt. Do you have a link on this? Why would anyone walk on for this?

To try and show out and earn their chance to be one of the few that breakout and earn a schollie and play

Also why all film sessions on the different fields are taped (for the coaches to watch)

If the 105 is the core then there will be at a minimum 20 walk ons in that group

Also, why you see alot of walk ons entering the portal and moving down to FCS when they aren't breaking through

Maybe the GAs time could be better directed.

Maybe facility space could be allocated for maximal benefit of 125 players rather than having to squeeze in 155+

Maybe if players 100-125 rather than 130-155 were primarily used for “cannon fodder” the starters would be better prepared.

Our roster size is an EXTREME outlier compared to other power 5 programs almost all of whom seem to have more success with rosters of 110-125

I agree completely...as of now the locker room doesn't even hold the entire roster

It should be noted that the current walk on class is quite a bit smaller than in previous years

IMO, roster should never go over 120-125 Max let alone ballooning towards 150-170

  1. Noa Pola Gates
  2. Markese Stepp
  3. Tate Wildeman
  4. Daniel Cerni
  5. Will Nixon
  6. Wyatt Liewer
  7. Damian Jackson
  8. Jaquez Yant
  9. Deondre Jackson - don't think he ends up here if we land Allen
  10. Logan Smothers - I want him to stay for depth but doubt he does

Isn’t this about the 7th year for wildeman and he still has never played.

Don’t discount how much of an example he may have been setting in the locker room and weight room.
Judging by the won-loss record and this program's forte of making stupid mistakes and careless blunders, we need more men of character in the program not less.

I'd chop the following:

Richard Torres - Not sure why we signed him, but see if you can make him portal bound
Marquis Stepp - Didn't work
Yant - He's ok, but I'd use as an opportunity to get another few portal guys
Chris Hickman - Too much of a tweener and hasn't done much
Pola Gates - Just don't think he has the size and sounds as he may have a slow blinker
Tate Wildman - Doesn't seem as he will ever contribute
Mosai Newsom - Hate to lose depth, but I would go try and get a better DL

Probably a few others that should be on the block for me.
With you on Torres.. but how do you recruit and sign a kid then dismiss him before he even gets started?

I don't really want to see Yant move on.. If he doesn't end up in the top 4 after spring ball, then so be it, but I can see Grant, Ervin, & Yant being our top 3 backs.

Yant was one of those walk on guys who got a scholarship, but I'm unsure if that has to be renewed every year or is it of the permanent variety?

He has zero room for attitude though.
