We (Tarboro) have played three of the Top 5A teams in the East, and won all 3. Good teams, lots of athletes, but I am not sure they quite have anything for the 5A West this year. The Massey Projections certainly display that as well.

Surely playing down classifications gives a negative effect to a teams RPI doesn’t it? For example, Franklin at 7 having played Murphy(2a), Robbinsville(1a), Swain(2a) out of conference or west Henderson at 9 having played Hendersonville (3a), Owen(3a), Tuscola(4a). I understand that it has a lot to do with mountain teams and traveling, however I don’t think you reward them with higher seeds by playing weaker opponents regardless if the opponent is ranked higher in a lesser classification.

It all just depends on RPI. Which class a team is in has nothing to do with it. So they are better off playing a 2A team that goes 8-2 vs playing a 4A school that goes 2-8

Basically your RPI is 40% your teams winning percentage, 40% your teams opponents winning percentage and 20% your opponents opponents winning percentage. What classification a team you play is in isn't factored into anything
