Can you guys talk about how good our defense has been so far, and then in turn, talk about how bad Marvin was at it last year? I'm just worried that might be forgotten if we continue to let it die.
And make sure the world knows that it was all Marvin's fault last year. Switching to zone had nothing to do with Grayson being a below average defender for 4 years, or Trevon/Gary losing focus and losing their man, or Wendell being unable to defend outside of the restricted area. It was all Marvin's fault!

IMO he cared more last year about his rap career than our defense, what a shame.

Marvin couldn’t guard a cookie jar, and a few of the other freshmen were only worried about their draft status. Make sure that gets brought up.
Marvin was more worried after the season ended about being the top pick, Duval felt he wasn’t used properly, Trent’s dad made his own statement that his son could go faster than he was allowed to show, and Carter’s mom, well you know.

Please bring up that through 8 games, this team has shown more fire than all of last season.

Please mention that this bunch of freshmen seem to be playing for the name on the front of their jersey, which is all any reasonable fan wants.

Please mention that last years team were the most talented team in the country, but didn’t have enough hustle in them. Refer to the episode of “Earn Everything,” where K praised their effort to loose balls in one practice versus the effort of last years team all season.

PS. I’m just asking all this for a friend.

Did yall just pull a Luke Kennard on us? two-and-done. Here I am thinking this podcast was in it until eligibility ran out but clearly yall think you can't improve your stock anymore. It's kind of sad. I looked forward to these on my road trip.

Well, while we're asking for things to talk about, could we mention that last year's team (that was such a fan failure, it seems) was in the Elite 8, and had to have every frickin' bad thing that could possibly go wrong in the universe happen to them (in the last of regulation and OT) to keep them from the Final 4. I'll never consider our team from last year a failure, I'm proud of what they accomplished...Elite 8's are nothing to sneeze about. It's not a divine right to make the FF, no matter how talented or skilled you are. You have to have a modicum of good luck...at the right times.

When I get the time later on this evening, or night, I'm going to listen to the latest podcast guys. I just know it's going to be great.

It’s a good one. Around the 33 minute mark we talk about our thoughts on the Carey announcement if you want to catch it before he makes anything official.

Thanks for the support dirt and I couldn’t have said it any better myself. That team played hard and represented the university with class, regardless of anything their parents did.

Can we talk about Cam? He doesn’t seem comfortable yet in his role. This transition to just being a spot up shooter is more difficult than we expected. He has played well but we know he can do so much more. I thought he would be our secondary ball handler and playmaker. He will get better though.

We discussed Cam a decent amount in this episode as well.

I thought with his passing ability he would too. We need him to be a 12-15 ppg guy at least. And he’s capable of so much more. We talk about his role a bit in the RJ topic. He’s vital to this team winning a title. Look at the Gonzaga game. He’s got to be the 2000-2001 Mike Dunleavy Jr. of this team in terms of his scoring role.

Good stuff, 'hokie & Timo! I made it to the end except for the Hartford and Yale predictions (I'll catch it later), but I predict PAIN for both of them!
Loved in particular the Zion & RJ segment. Also I remember that Zion had some cramps against 'Zaga, but didn't realize they were as bad as all that.
I hope you're right Timo about Tre perhaps coming back, but I'm worried about that. And yeah, we need Cam to be a big part of the Big3...that will change everything if he can get it going consistently.

Oh, and about Nas...surely Roy will start him soon, but goodness I hope not...think that helps us out in so many ways!!!

Really enjoyed it guys, thanks for all the hard work to give us a little more to 'chew on' about Duke!

Unfortunately i think Tre will leave. He’s a seasoned vet already. He’s a winning player. I don’t know why a franchise wouldn’t want him. Give Pop Tre and San Antonio will be a contender in a few years

I agree, dachamp. If Tre continues to play as well as he's played (and I'm sure he's going to improve quite a bit), he's probably gone. And if his stock is good enough at the time, I can't blame him.

Agreed. However, there's really 2 things working against this.
1. And I understand it's early, San Antonio is currently in 14th place in the west, good chance they miss the playoffs, would be drafting in the lottery, meaning they won't be considering Tre unless it's in the 2nd round.
2. A lot of rumors Popp will retire after this year, again too early to speculate and people have been saying this for 10 years, but we may FINALLY be seeing the death of the Spurs/Popp run.

The only bugaboo is his shot and finishing ability in traffic...right now. If he cleans those things up, he’s about as close to a perfect point guard as you get.

The league has seen Tyus and they aren’t thoroughly impressed. He gets his chances with Thibs, but he’d probably be better suited elsewhere. The two are eerily similar except Tre is a plus defender. That’s a big plus too. If he measures well he certainly could be going mid first.

The Spurs have already contacted hof coach roy williams for the job and he has turned them down. OFC

Tre looked good in Hawaii when he decided to score. His 3 point jumper isn't good but his midrange game is legit already. He has amazing vision and he's an elite defender. His shot will get a little better as time goes on

Check out these states with Tre on the floor...

"Tre Jones, perhaps America's best point guard, is dropping six dimes per game. Duke averages 131 points per 100 possessions, makes 44 percent of its 3-pointers and rebounds nearly half its missed shots when he's on the floor, per hooplens.com"

That's just insane how good we are with him on the floor.

Just had a chance to listen to the most recent podcast....good job, guys! Still thought there was way too much positivity, though.
Thanks for the listen. Thinking we start next week with guests. It would be a huge get for the podcast to have Jay Bilas himself on, we will reach out to your people.

LOL! I was listening to the podcast on my phone with the TV on but turned down. My wife came into the room and thought I was on the phone with someone and whispered something and left the room because she thought I was busy with work or something. This may come in handy in the future!

Like it so far. Good points about the assist difference in the Gonzaga game compared to others and how Gonzaga played with a flow that made everything so easy for them but even when we scored it seemed like a struggle. Gonna go back and finish it now. At the RJ part the last few possessions of the game right now.

If you could throw in a “this is very important and we need to spend the next 30 minutes or hour discussing this before work tomorrow” every now and then in the podcast I’d greatly appreciate it. It could get me out of having to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie or two over the next couple weeks. Just kidding. Thanks guys! It’s cool people from the board are doing something like this!

Just finished it. Great job guys! I don’t follow recruiting like I used to so I really liked that segment. I’m hoping Duke lands the biggest recruit, Tre as a sophomore. I think that’s more important than Stewart or Hurt,

You should have an OFC show, but that may be difficult to schedule around mid afternoon naps and early bird specials. You’ll have a tight window to work with. :D

But think of the sponsorships the show could sign!

Ensure
Depends
Efferent
Individually wrapped butterscotch!
Peckers potted meat

They would rack up on sponsors!!
