from three point range. And tre made 5 of them. Quick 3’s are murder to this team. Contested 3s are dangerous. We’ve known This all year, it’s time to only chuck 3s when we’re completely wide open and eliminate the shot entirely on the fast break. I’ll take a quote from someone earlier ( I forgot) “ a quick three is basically a turnover).

How many were really that quick? RJ has 2 that were probably earlier than necessary. Zion has 1 I remember being too early. But most of the others last night came in the offense. I’ve said it in here like 30 times recently, but you have to have floor spacing and being a threat from 3 creates that. Zions looks got way easier after Tres 4th shot went down. Without Cam I think RJ was trying to takeover a bit more early on. Also, 3 of those misses were from O’Connell and 2 of those rimmed out.

Alex hitting a few would have changed so much in that game.

Tied (maybe down 1?) AOC boards, drops it to Tre, he swings it to RJ after he passes half-court and he just lets it fly. Closely defended, a few steps back off the line. Nothing about that is a good shot... If he’s “feeling it” and hot then that becomes a situational free pass, but he was on lockdown in the first half. He shot a couple other 3’s from the wing with his man right on him with a healthy shot clock.

He’s a star player, he has the right to pull the trigger on some shots that would be poor selection for most but I think it’s imperative to give the possession a chance at a high percentage shot before we pop off that kinda stuff.

I’m not sure how many were quick 3s but there was also a lot of them that I’d consider poor shot selection. My thing is, in a game decided by a possession, we went 35% from 3 taking 20 shots. We shot 70% from 2 point range 25-36.

That's the worst part about Duke jacking up so many 3s this year. The team is ELITE at 2pt field goal percentage and terrible at 3s.

Not sure if you’re just joking here or not. But if RJ doesn’t get his Duke loses every game. Btw, dude had 11 assists. Like most great players he spent time getting his teamates looks and then got his too. The team put the balm in his hands all night. That was THE gameplan.

As for the percentages etc. we all understand that 2s will always be a higher percentage right? Add in fast break layups and dunks and the numbers have to go up. I’m not arguing for this team to take more threes or saying that they should hang their hat there. But when we weren’t making shots Zion and RJ get doubled and then even they, as great as they are, struggled. It’s not like the choice is make a 2 that’s always 70percent or shoot a 3 that’s always 30 percent. There is more nuance to the game than that. And I agree they do shoot some bad 3s sometimes. They also have moments of bad defense and miss bad shots that are 2s. But you can’t just let the other team dictate your offense and expect to win.
