I was pleasantly surprised. Rumfelt settled in at QB and played well. Dorsey and McCracken were excellent on both sides of the ball. Wood pulled in the only interception of the day from Safety. For what you would think is going to be a run dominant team, looked pretty dang good passing.

I heard McCracken and Abling looked good at WR. Murphy looks to have a few different weapons in the passing game this year. Abling is going to be a real asset if he sticks with it and it looks like he will.

I didn't know about the transfer at corner until now, was told he's athletic but small. He certainly has some good bloodlines going for him, his uncle M Neal and great uncle D Bennett were big time players at Murphy.

Word from two different people is that the linebackers struggled. It was always going to be tough replacing a couple 3 year starters in Roberts and McTaggart.

What grade are the Abling kid and the transfer in? Is this Ablings first year? I know the family of both kids. Both good families.

4-1 .... Played Fannin County, GA twice also. They were by far the weakest team there.
How did the new kid look in the secondary? Did your son play any outside linebacker?

Satterfield, Posey and Rathburn are all good football players but that's not enough speed at linebacker. I'm hopeful someone steps up at MIKE so Rathburn can move outside, couple names of some younger kids that may get a shot there. Imo it would be better all the way around as Rathburn is a bit undersized to play in the middle and his athleticism still plays well on the outside.

With the QB from Georgia not showing Rumfelt won't play defense, so there is definitely an opening at free safety unless McCracken moves over, but I hope someone else steps up so McCracken can stay at corner.

Wood played free saftey... had the only pick of the day, with coaching he definitely has the speed.

Heard McCracken hurt his ankle on a touch down catch... any one know how bad it is?

The new kid didn't look too bad. He got lots of reps after Payton turned his ankle. He has good speed, just needs experience.

My son played at safety all day. He's learning and I thought he improved all day. He didn't play any at LB.

What you heard was correct; LB play was not stellar. Both on the outside looked slow Rathburn played well; such a tough kid. That coaching staff knows what they're doing, they'll put everyone where they will be successful.

Abling is going to be a big addition. I can see him eventually playing some safety down the road.

This team, without a lot of injuries, is going to be fun to watch.

Who was the team that beat them?
The very first match up was with Union County, GA. They scored twice to none for us. You could tell that it was the first action of the season. QB was a bit tight. Coaches tweaked personnel before the next session and they rolled after that. I'm telling you, I was impressed with these sophomores and with Dorsey and Abling.

That’s awesome I had a Union County player texting me saying my team was trash lol and that we couldn’t cover them. I wasn’t there so I couldn’t really say nothing. I sure wish Murphy would get a real game with them in the future.

I agree but in a perfect world he's playing outside linebacker, gets more overall speed on the field. It isnt a perfect world though so that may be his spot this year. I could still see him playing outside linebacker in the future and Abling playing free safety. Or him taking over for Dorsey at strong safety next season.

Well I wish Union had felt that way when coaching staff called them about a game. We had matching open weeks and they wouldn't play.

That first pairing, we didn't look very good either side of the ball. From there on out, best team there. 7-on-7 is what it is. Easy when you always know it's a pass and there aren't linemen and linebackers baring down on the QB. We ran a lot of our plays out of the Wing-T, which gives good real-game type experience. The other teams were all-out spread.

I really do wish Union would agree to play us every year. It would draw a great crowd and would be a fun rivalry, easy travel and big gate. Does Georgia still have their playoffs set up on what I use to consider like a BCS type format. Where if they lost to a 1a school it would/could really hurt their playoff seeding?

East looking for any teams that will do a 3 on 7. (3 for East and 7 for any body else) Wanting to make sure that all teams have a chance against a loaded squad. If you don't believe me just ask heir coaches... they'll tell you like it is..
