As far as I can recall Murphy has never stopped us from winning a State Championship. If they had not knocked us out from playoff contention someone else would have. The only season where I can think of this not being the case was the 2012 season. Don’t know how it was back in the good ole days though.

Last year is the only year since 2013 were they were over 500. 470 is actually more in line with numbers pass. I mean i wouldn't have minded seeing Murphy stay 1AA the only way Mitchell gets to the championship is to beat Cherokee , Murphy then probably Robbinsville. One less SMC team would have been nice lol. It's funny i haven't seen any of the 2AA teams whine about Hibriten, if they have had the ADM last year during the realignment that they had this year they would be in 3A and Hickory would have be in 2AA. The East 1AA has Granville Central realignment ADM 646 this year 734 haven't seen any complaints.

2 and 3 A schools numbers don't matter as they do in 1A. in 1A kids mostly have to play both ways, the bigger schools have enough kids to rotate with little difference in quality

Fleeing Charlotte!
Exactly, if I remember correctly, Monroe was classified 1a at a time when nobody in Union County wanted there kids to go to Monroe, the year after realignment the exidous of Charlotte begain and Union County is still building schools trying to keep up with the influx, but that's how Monroe played 1a ball with 3a numbers

Well in two examples I gave Granville Central is 1A school that now has a bigger adm then 13 2A schools. And Mitchell is the smallest school in our conference the only small 1a and the rest 2a and has as many if not more players then any of them.

Murphy's QB was on the D side most of the Robbinsville game. They do not have big numbers. Albemarle 15 years ago had a diverse enrollment of 660-690 students. Thomasville went into the 700's in 2006.

I think Monroe dropped in numbers for the school year the realignment numbers were used due to the opening of Central Academy of Tech and Art (CATA). Over 100 students went from Monroe to CATA in the first two classes. CATA is a county wide magnet and no longer has football. Union Academy is a charter that plays 1A. Union County is growing so much now that they will probably be on the verge of four or five 4A schools on the 2025 alignment unless another high school is built on the Meck side. The east side will grow also with the bypass running from I-485 down to the Marshville - Wingate area.

Well to be fair #2 is the first starting QB to also play defense at Murphy since '05, but I agree with your general point. Murphy is starting 4-5 kids both ways about every year.

Must be nice. I cant think of a Robbinsville QB that didnt play both ways.
We turned the ball over on downs at Rabun this year and every kid stayed on the field but one.

It's to keep the QB healthy because there were a few that would've been flat out studs on defense. Murphy didn't really have choice this year.

Mitchell is in the same boat this year too, Mitchell has not consistently played a qb on defense in a long time until this year, Juggy Hughes back 7 or 8 years ago was used on defense mainly just in big games, but other than that we've been lucky. Noah is just too good at cornerback though that we can't not have him out there, not sure how many career interceptions he has now, but I know he was well on his way to the school record after his freshman and sophomore years, think he had 6 or 7 interceptions both of his first 2 years and has at least a couple this year. Him and Tyler McKinney were both threw into the fire as freshmen in the secondary and have both been fantastic ever since. Unfortunately Mitchell almost always has probably at least 8 or 9 two way starters though, including this year, think it's either 9 or 10 this year.

Murphy won't play QB's on defense unless they have to. Seth Curtis who was Murphy's QB from '09-'11 could've been one of the best DB's in school history and he didn't play a down of defense on varsity.

But numbers are down now, this was the least amount of players Murphy's had on varsity in years. #2 has started in the secondary since he was a sophomore and with the lack of viable options at his spot and him being a difference maker on defense, it was a no brainer to keep letting him play there. Murphy has 6 starting both ways this season, last year they only had 3 or 4.

Albemarle wouldve beat Robbinsville in 2012, so your statement remains true.
I should’ve used the word possibly. I think the 2012 team could’ve at least made it to the ship that year if they would’ve played Albermarle as good as they did against Murphy in the playoffs. No way they beat Plymouth that year though.

Albemarle was better than Plymouth, Murphy played their best game of the season against Albemarle.
